Before WR returned, Gareth Barry was the best football brain in the squad.
Never quick, doesn't score very many, but he contributed in nous and experience above and beyond - as big a bargain signing as Paul Power was for Howard Kendall !!!

He had 3 good seasons out of the 4 he had here. Crying shame we never had him earlier in his career, really.

A very clever player and really underrated, despite him being about to break Giggs' record.

Christ. Talk about going overboard in here. He's had two good seasons with us, one absolutely abysmal one and an inconsistent one. Don't get me wrong, he's been a decent signing and I wish him well though.

Off to West Brom for £1m according to Daily Fail.

Unless we have someone lineup to replace him I don't see how this would benefit us. He can still do a job in certain matches. Ideal player to help the team shut out shops. He is the undestudy to Schneiderlin. Both McCarthy and Besic are injured-proned and are not holding midfielders. Selling McCarthy may generate £15m-£20m but I don't think someone would pay for more than a couple of millions for Besic. So now one of them would probably stay as back-up.

Barry was the 2nd best Martinez signing. Gaz may want 1st team football. He serves the club well and I wish him good luck.

Good luck to him. A couple of good years left in him at a mid table club. He's just what West Brom need after losing Fletcher to Stoke. Wish we would have bought him from Villa...he was a real Everton-style midfielder..bit like Bracewell
