Gaming Platform

PC has MUCH better graphics than PS3 and xbox. I don't even have a great PC by todays standards and for example, Black Ops is an abomination on my friends PS3 compared to my PC. I don't think this should even be up for debate.

Developers are building games designed for consoles because that's where the money is and on the issue of Crysis 2:

To be fair it really depends on what set up you're running, console-wise. My PS3 looks fantastic on the big 42" 1080P TV.

Similarly my PC games look nice on my big HD monitor, and good PC setup. But the thing is, it seems a tad unfair to just take the higher echelon of PC power as the norm when comparing it to consoles. I know a lot of people whose computers don't run games as well my PS3 or 360 set up does.

If you're going to buy a PC with the intention of gaming on it, it will almost certainly run the game better in terms of graphics. Console graphics obviously aren't bad, I'll agree with you there. Put a console on a full HD tv and compare it to let's say an average PC which can run a game smoothly at 1920x1080 and the difference is crystal clear, pun intended. On a beast PC, to put it in your language RFUS, you'd get hard and more erect than Distin and she (whoever she is?) would squirt all over the show.

I just think that even if people had a choice of the best gaming PC or a console, most would probably choose the console - probably because there isn't really much advertisement of PC as a platform for awesome gaming. What do you think?

Casual gamers will never take to the PC in the same way, because mice/keyboards and the lack of same-room multiplayer, the lack of sitting on a sofa, the lack of a TV etc... it all means a less social and a less inviting experience.

For core gamers, it's all down to preference. I find using a 360 pad, my bigger TV, a sofa and so on a lot more inviting and relaxing than sitting on my swivel chair staring into the monitor. I also find using a keyboard and mouse a lot less comfortable and a lot less natural, than a dedicated gaming pad. Although you can get wired 360 pads to use with your PC, I do realise.

I think the type of game also matters. Social games are best suited to consoles; obviously PCs don't have local co-op. Or at least not in the same capacity. RTSs and RPGs work better with the PC; even I got Dragon Age for the PC, for example. But most of the games I like; footie games, action adventure and shooters, I prefer to play on consoles. I think it's more natural, and although computer mice are better for shooters in terms of accuracy, there's also a higher learning curve, and a bigger range of skill. So PC shooters are less noob friendly... I'm a PC shooter noob, so I get my arse handed to me on CSS, whereas in Halo I'm quite good. That makes a difference.

I have more to say, but I'll leave it there!

PC gamer here and fully agree.

That said, the one draw back is always having to upgrade your graphics capabilities as newer and newer titles come out that hog a boatload of RAM, space, etc...

Personally I think most fanboy gaming platform wars are just a case of people justifying their purchases. Most people don't have all the platforms, and so naturally defend theirs.

In fact, at one point I only had the Wii -- no PS3 or 360, and not a very good PC -- and I remember ardently defending its merits. Only after getting the others did I see its flaws, but also eventually appreciate its unique qualities too. Point is, if you're a fan of gaming (and you're lucky enough to own mutliple platforms), then just enjoy playing games and not games consoles.

I think more can be done for PC gaming to suit all those needs though. A PC can plug into a TV, no problem. So why not make PC games capable of splitscreen and anything else a console can do. That bums me out! As you say though, casual gamers are going to go for consoles. They should make a keyboard/mouse input for consoles, that'd probably make me enjoy it a lot more, but then the casual gamers might get a bit raped!

I think consoles and PC both have much more potential than what's being shown now. There could just be standardised console hardware that's released every year or so, that people have the option to upgrade to. That way the graphics/performance can be improved if people choose to pay for it, without creating too much more complexity in the game design. Although that could lead to the console becoming a bit more difficult to use. Hopefully when the next generation consoles are released these sort of things are taken into consideration, especially because the PS3 and Xbox360 are so similar. But they're making these ridiculous lame move controllers instead, what a waste of time and effort.

My case for this 'war' lol, is more along the lines of being upset that games aren't really being developed with PC in mind anymore, which is a real shame because of the potential and the quality of a PC. And I don't know if you've played Black Ops on PC, but that was released like an absolute mess - laggy, stutters, poor hardware utilisation - because it's a console port. I have MW2 and it runs like a dream, one year later, Black Ops with hardly a graphical improvement, runs pathetically. I actually just saw this on Twitter now:

We are testing the next patch. It includes a fix for systems with the audio stutter problem. #codblackops #pc
Would you ever believe that a game could lag and stutter due to sound effects hogging the CPU? :(

I know what you mean mate. The industry support for the PC has been in decline for a while. Plenty of great games don't make it to the PC or do make it, but after a long wait. And an increasing number of big titles have indeed been of a poorer quality to their console counterparts.

And that is a shame.

I jibbed my PC off a while ago now - for gaming, only need a laptop for porn and general internets.

I do miss the old keyboard and mouse controls though, untouchable really.

My Xbox is all dusty now, haven't bothered with it since I 100%ed RDR:UN. I need a new challenge.

at my pc gaming peak it was stuff like doom , battlefront 2, battlefeild 2, unreal tourney , counter strike etc . but it seemed like every time a new game came out either myself or one of my mates would have to buy a new bit of hardware.( ive got boxes of old sound cards, keyboards , mice , graphic cards , speakers , headphones , ram , mics etc)

then rainbox 6 vegas came out on the 360 and we were just drawn to the simplicity of 'plug and play' online gaming on the console. ive just stuck with it ever since.
