Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
just posted on sporting life

Everton owner Bill Kenwright wants a billionaire investor to buy the club to allow them to compete with Manchester City.
At an EGM on Wednesday night at Goodison Park to discuss the proposed new Everton stadium in Kirkby, Kenwright outlined the financial might now needed for the club to survive in the current football climate.
Kenwright insists the club must have a new ground to even begin to compete with the new money flooding into the Premier League.
He withstood two hours of argument from shareholders against the club's desire to move out of the city to Kirkby, but made it clear that he was not able to produce the money needed to continue to bankroll the Toffees at their current level indefinitely.
Kenwright reckons that the amazing takeover of Manchester City this week has already changed the footballing battleground that Everton are fighting on.
Kenwright desperately wants to see the new stadium built in Kirkby to give the club more financial clout.
He said: "I cannot go on like this, we need a new owner and we will continue to try to find one.
"I cannot see an alternative. This summer's transfer window has been the worst and most difficult I can remember.
"Now Arabs have bought Manchester City making it even more difficult for Everton football club. I am a pauper when it comes to other chairmen.
"I want this club to have its billionaire, but it is not me. My shareholding has been for sale from the day I bought in.
"Every year it becomes more difficult to find the money. It is impossible to continue in the financial way we are at the moment."
He added: "I do not know how I can continue to serve this club the way we are doing at the moment.
"Everyone knows this club needs investment. People are looking. I would sell tomorrow."
Mark Grayson, the shareholder who helped forced this EGM - it needed 20 per cent support to be called - said: "Manchester City has been sold twice in 18 months to billionaires, that is what we need to support our manager David Moyes.
"But I believe we should still be able to find a site for a new stadium in Liverpool."
Acting chief executive Robert Elstone outlined the reasons for the Kirkby move, saying: "We believe that there is no other financially available option in Liverpool. We have been offered only two other sites in the city, and they were not viable.
"If we try to develop Goodison Park, we will have to revise our club budget and expectation."
Elstone also reviewed the possible ways of expanding or rebuilding Goodison Park, using comparisons with Manchester City's Eastlands, Bolton's Reebok and Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, all of whom he claimed, could not be squeezed into the current Goodison footprint.
Elstone added: "This club has always punched above it's weight with a great manager in control.
"It is unwise to continue to rely on that to be successful as a football club.
"There have been several sites over 12 years of searching, from Kirkby golf club, the King's Dock, Scotland Road and now Kirkby.
"But there is no site in the city, Liverpool FC have been looking, Tesco has been looking at us. There is nowhere.
"It will cost £230m to rebuild Goodison Park, and that is not viable. The board will not put this club at risk and we retain our commitment to Kirkby."

cheers reidy, as some of you will know i am a kenwright fan as i believe he has the best interest of the club ay heart and he is just being honest in his assesment of how things stand at the moment

Kenwright = same old bullshit.

Elstone = same old Wyness.

So all that means is that we're in limbo until Kirkby is knocked back in a year's time because these daft fuckers have no Plan B.

Clowns.

And how do you know it will be knocked back? Sorry you don't

There must be a reason why we haven't had a sniff of an investment when SO many other teams have investment sorted - we're pretty much the only top half team to not have big backing.

Something is putting these people off. Surely it can't just be the stadium issue?

It's been called in because its against regional and national planning guidelines and faces massive opposition, not least from the private sector. It'll need to be scaled down to stand a chance of sidestepping all the protests over its need and the effects on trade in other authorities. At that point it's a different animal and wouldn't provide the cross subsidy envisaged for the stadium...unless Tesco want to pay for the whole thing. Thanks Tesco.

cheers davek at least i now understand your reasons for your opinions and they seem to have some credibility, however we dont know for a fact that the ground will be vetoed however at leaqst kenwright is being honest in saying at the moment this is the only viable option. He has stated why goodison is not viable and it seems valid. What would you suggest. Ground share? At least kenwright is trying to take us forward cause it seems nobody else wants to

if theres the exclusivity clause then he has to say that because it would break the clause, so until the deal is considered dead then the club cant consider other options (supposedly).
he has always said "if a buyer comes along", he has done his best to keep us in good shape until that day, why none have come knocking just doesn't seem to make any sense, but then we are biased in our opinion of our club and can only really see it one way, unlike outsiders who obviously view us differently.
show them the EVERTON GLORY video on youtube that'll make 'em realise, some of Cals are good too, maybe Cal could be our saviour, it seems as ridiculous as Man. City being the richest on the planet did last saturday.

Very honest and open, i dont know why we continue to put the man through this torture. It only continues to put a nail in our coffin. Surely lies would be "i can take the club forward" hes basicly sayin look lads im skint, im fed up or all this abuse from every angle if a plan b comes along, i will take it. Why would he want to be chairmen of some of our misreable and ungratfull Fan base, the man is a true legend!

Delighted to hear that Kirkby is still on the clubs agends, made my summer that!

For all of his unfulfilled promises, there's something about BK that's admirable. Now I know that's a deeply unpopular view in many quarters, but the proof remains with Bill - Bill, please find your "perfect" investor and let the club move on - if you do so, you'll be a legendary figure in Everton's history. You alone, will have allowed us to move on.

If you don't, you'll be reviled and condemned for ever.
