Fried Chicken

*shrug* fair enough. Bit odd that so much of it seems to be eaten round here though if it's so offensive. You'd think the community would stop offensive restaurants opening up.

What?

Nobody is suggesting that some black people do not enjoy eating fried chicken, But it is a racial stereotype to suggest that every single black person eats it, It goes back to slavery as it was a typical slave food along with watermelon which is also used as in a negitive way towards black people in America

Wiki puts it better than I can

Since the American Civil War, traditional slave foods like fried chicken, watermelon, and chitterlings have suffered a strong association with African American stereotypes and blackface minstrelsy.[10] This was commercialized for the first half of the 20th century by restaurants like Sambo's and Coon Chicken Inn, which selected exaggerated depictions of blacks as mascots, implying quality by their association with the stereotype. Although also being acknowledged positively as "soul food" today, the affinity that African American culture has for fried chicken has been considered a delicate, often pejorative issue. While the perception of fried chicken as an ethnic dish has been fading for several decades, with the ubiquity of fried chicken dishes in the US, it persists as a racial stereotype

PC gone mad when did ****e like this become offensive? whenever I used to go down my mates years back in Manchester I got the "keep away from the hubcaps" jibe "not serving scouse" etc etc. jibes and Im not arsed people need to have much thicker skin

Big Afro-Caribean community round here, and there are a tonne of fried chicken restaurants. Think there's around 4 on the high street alone.

May have been a silly thing to say but hardly the most offensive in the world is it? Like saying a Brit would want fish and chips or something.

My Yank manager calls me 'Fish and Chips' as a semi nickname/semi slur. I should have him fired ffs or demand a public televised apology
