Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
Looking like it's going to come our way soon.

Is it scaremongering by Environmentalists or is it denial by Government ?

is there any proof that it causes tremors & Earthquakes ?

It would create a fair few jobs in the North West from what they are saying.

Brilliant. Will create a hell of a lot of jobs and is no more dangerous than any of the work that's currently done to extract oil and gas.

Sniff it Greenpeace.

It'll rape your land and women and make your fields of honey fields of rotting carcasses but I'm ok with is since I'm obviously not around.

Onwards and upwards!

What is it?

New way of drilling for gas. High pressure water is pumped a few miles underground to fracture rocks which then release their store of natural.

None of us know enough about it to say if it is safe or not, but who is to say that our current drilling/transportation techniques are safe anyway? There's a level of inherent risk in the industry.

It's a massive industry that will ensure our supplies for a good few years. The States and Aussies have gone into it big time, surprising it's taken us so long to catch up. There's sure plenty of scaremongering with videos of gas coming out of your taps. Sure maybe in the US midwest but not many here have their own water well.

It's widespread near me. Fracking definitely increases oil/gas production, and certainly increases risk of (minor) earthquakes, but there is no evidence it increases risks of moderate or major earthquakes. The major concern is fracking fluids ending up in the water supply, and whether these chemicals are dangerous to consume (which it seems is most likely true).

Allegedly, it will produce much cheaper fuel. Prepare to be underwhelmed by how much is passed on to the consumer.

Cheaper production prices are certain; market prices are determined by supply and demand. Drilling for oil/gas requires positive pressure to push it up out the rock. Once you lose pressure, the pumps stop producing. Fracking gets much greater production per well (leaves less in the ground, especially in areas not previously drilled because the geologists determined none of the resources could be recovered). Natural gas prices in the US have hit very low levels as a result of massive quantities delivered by recent drilling.
