Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

5 points out of 12. Solid performance if not spectacular against a tough opening set of fixtures. I hope we've settled that back line now so we can kick on. Could be racking up the wins from here on in.

Sad to hear the stories about Danny Rowe badmouthing the club to sell his autobiography. Didn't have to be like that. He's dropped a level in my estimation if it's true.

FYLDE GAIN MOMENTUM

DULWICH RESULT.webp

Fylde gained confidence from the win against Blackpool in their previous match and an away trip to Dulwich Hamlet was no real problem for The Coasters, Henderson gave Fylde an early lead from the penalty spot sending the keeper the wrong way with a low drive into the bottom left corner. The winger in scintilating form early on in the season. The football was quick exploiting the wide areas left exposed by Dulwich who could not get out of their own half, Henderson's shot on 17 minutes forced a tip round the post from the keeper and was close to making it 2-0. Richie Ginnelly went close to scoring in the 70th minute but his header was inches over the cross bar, Fylde searching hard for that goal to make it secure. Second half substitute Martin Withers broke free of the Dulwich defence and got one on one with the keeper but he stood tall and palmed the shot wide, an excellent save. Dulwich pulled one back from a free-kick, crossed to the far post by Flannigan, Husek lost his marker and met the ball with force to take it through the hands of Griffiths, 1-1 and not part of the script according to some. Fylde hit back instantly, Griffiths getting the ball wide to Wright-Phillips who played it direct into the path of Withers to slot past the keeper getting his first goal of the season. Fylde back in control and regained possession for long enough periods to hold onto a good away result. Another three points on the board for The Coasters.

Two days later, newly promoted Dartford had the daunting fixture of playing Fylde at Mill Farm and the first half was completely dominated by The Coasters. The starting line-up was rotated considering it was only 48 hours since the last game. Euan Henderson scored from the spot inside the first minute after O'Neill was tripped to give Fylde a promising start. Lamptey was on hand to play the ball back towards the final third after the corner was cleared to Okoroji who crossed for the head of O'Neill, a wonderful finish from the striker and his fifth of the season. Dartford struggled to keep possession and passes were frequently intercepted, MacDonald found Jim Kellerman, fed the ball to Hammond who is just back from injury and a through ball to Wright-Phillips who hit it first time low and hard gave Fylde their third in under half an hour. Six minutes later Lamptey crossed from the right and O'Neill got his second headed goal of the game, his sixth in six games. 4-0 up and cruising into half-time. It looked as though Fylde eased off the gas in the second half and Dartford had a few chances that almost caused problems but Griffiths made some good saves tipping over the bar at range and getting down to make some good saves to hold onto his clean sheet. Jim Kellerman wanted a piece of the action and drilled home a shot on 62 minutes. A convincing display from Fylde and a solid performance to show a newly promoted side it can be a big step up to the National League.

DF: It's a good win, we keep going with that momentum and who knows. We have scored goals this season and we've kept a clean sheet, I'm pleased with the reaction from the lads after we lost our first game of the season and we've done well to get on a good run of results. We have to keep going.

After six games it's Forest Green leading the way winning five of six and Fylde in second on 13 points. A good start to the campaign and an away trip to Kidderminster Harriers is the next challenge for Fylde.

FYLDE HIT POOR RUN OF FORM

kidderminster result.webp

Duncan Ferguson blasted his team after defeat to Kidderminster Harriers for playing with no passion or fight. Fylde started on the front foot playing their attacking style which led to them winning a penalty in the 19th minute, regular taker Euan Henderson stepped up and delivered another goal from the spot but the lead was short-lived and Kidderminster clawed it back ten minutes later, Griffiths cleared the cross from the corner with a punch but Wilson managed to get his head to ball and lobbed the defence and keeper to nestle it into the back of the net, a goal that the keeper should have dealt with better. Kidderminster took the lead in the second half when a ball was played to the far post that alluded the defence and Keogh was there to tap it into the open net, Fylde on the back foot and Ferguson blasting his side for poor man to man marking. Fylde struggled to get a foothold in the game and Kidderminster punished them once again, this time McGuffie scoring from outside the area to give the home side a two goal cushion. With Fylde struggling to get near their opposition, frustration set in with the away side, Tyrone O'Neill was in the right place to get on the end of Wright-Phillips through ball into the box and got the away side back into the game. At best, a point would have been achievable but Fylde lacked the instinct to go on and win the game. Ferguson was livid on the sideline as his side failed to follow the instructions asked of them. Credit to Kidderminster who took their chances against a poor Fylde display.

salford result.webp

Reynolds came in for MacDonald for the visit of Salford City and the side from Manchester held their nerve throughout the first half limiting Fylde to a number of chances and shots outside the box getting into the break at 0-0. A top performance in the first half for Salford, most notably Luke Garbutt who got an assist for the first goal of the game through Danny Maybanks, the left back supplying a great cross for the forward. The second came for Salford shortly after, Ross Randle holding up the ball against the Fylde defence to play in Maybanks again to drive home his second of the day. Tyrone O'Neill was shortly taken off the park as the striker had a shocking afternoon, the forward completely disconnected from the game and showed a lack of interest. Henderson was possibly the best player for Fylde, always looking for openings and often trying to break down a strong Salford side but another defeat for Fylde and a disappointing showing to match.

maidstone result.webp

With confidence seeming to be low, it got no better for the lads tipped for automatic promotion, Odin Bailey piled on the misery in the 8th minute but there was hope when Martin Withers grabbed an equaliser after the low cross from Lamptey from the right side. Ferguson chose to play two strikers from the off but the plan didn't go his way. Barnes put Maidstone back in fron just before half-time after powering through the Fylde defence, beating Feeney and Bellusci for pace and slotting neatly past Griffiths. The thirs goal from Maidstone prompted Ferguson out of his seat and into action, taking off winger Danny Smith and replacing him with Wright-Phillips, but by this time it seemed too late. Maidstone were to add to the misery of the travelling club and its fans, Carter played in Landolo who rifled a left footed shot into the top corner, Griffiths stranded to the spot. A minute later, Feeney aimed a forward pass for O'Neill which found its way back to the keeper who quickly restarted, Maidstone hitting Fylde with direct diagonal passes, the ball getting out wide to Smith who in acres of space crossed for Major who guided a header into the bottom corner but Griffiths could have saved it and as it slipped past his hands he watched it bounce over the line giving him and the Fylde side an awful away display. The second time this season Fylde have conceded five goals in a game and much improvement needed.

DF: Very, very disappointed. I get the impression these lads can just turn up and think the game is won. I won't stand for it, they'll be working hard for this and anyone who doesn't pull their weight, they don't play. It's as simple as that. If O'Neill can't motivate himself for the game, I'll go and see how the youth sides are doing. I know we have a 16 year old Lee Lofthouse in the academy who's already scored about 8 goals this season, I'll give him a go if he carries on.

Ferguson obviously very upset with his sides latest run of results. With in-form Forest Green next up for The Coasters, it could get increasingly worrying for Ferguson and a run of bad results could become a problem to turn around.

Forest green result.webp

Ferguson dropped Russell Griffiths in goal and brought in 25 year old Harry Wright for only his 7th appearance since signing four seasons ago. The sweeper keeper made some outstanding saves in the first half and a very solid defensive display saw Fylde hold Forest Green during a tense first half at Mill Lane. As the game went on, Fylde became more expressive and on 75 minutes broke the deadlock as O'Neill was played through one on one and slotted past the keeper, the fans utterly delighted. Wright made some great saves and was first to every ball from corners putting in an excellent display but Freddy Burton was penalised for a trip inside the box and just as the points were heading to a well deserved Fylde, the referee awarded the penalty. Cornick equalised and the stoppage time played out with Fylde unable to create anything in the final third.

DF: It was much better, we played ok. Defensively a lot better and the football wasn't pretty at times but we wanted to tighten up. I'm gutted for Harry (Wright) today as he was so close to the clean sheet which he deserved. Forest Green put us under a bit of pressure, I think they hit the woodwork about six times! It was a real battle out there today!
