FERGUSON: THE BUCK STOPS WITH ME

QPR result.webp

19 year old striker Alan Skinner who is on loan from Tottenham ran the Bolton backline ragged and bagged two second half goals. Mampala sniffed out a chance for himself late on in the game to try and get his team back in he game but his shot was saved by Bailey Peacock-Farrell. A completely one sided game at Loftus Road with a poor overall performance for The Trotters.

Portsmouth result.webp

Portsmouth travelled North from the South coast looking to snatch an away win to help them climb out of the bottom three. Manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was in fine spirits before the game as he was seen having a friendly conversation with Duncan Ferguson. Bolton started the better side and a quick counter attack saw Dwight McNeil pick out fellow winger Dennis Politic who beat Ed Brownhill at left back and scored with a powerful right footed shot into the bottom corner. Portsmouth came knocking but were limited to shooting outside the box as the Bolton back line stood firm. Ben Amos played brilliantly in goal throughout the whole game and was extremely upset with his defence when Allassani was allowed to get in from behind and put it past Amos. A harsh blow in the last kick of the game. The deflation on the faces of the players was there for all to see.

DF: It was a fair result on reflection, Portsmouth came and put us under a lot of pressure and we handled it well but offensively we had nothing. Our aim was to see the game out but Portsmouth had the pendulum swing in their favour and got a deserved equaliser.

Bolton took the lead away at Pride Park through midfielder Greg Doherty four minutes from half time. Dwight McNeil getting himself another assist with a beautiful through ball for the midfielder to get onto and plant to the side of Mahoney. The teams came out for the second half and Derby scored 30 seconds after the kick-off, Bellusci and Osede caught in a muddle when Ivan Toney curled one in with his left foot. With a quiet second half, the Bolton away section stood to applaud the return of winger Sean Robertson who has been a catalyst in this recent Wanderers' side. The winger getting himself twenty minutes and had some good touches in the final third playing in his team-mate McNeil but his shot has saved low by the keeper. Bolton were happy to take a point away from Pride Park.

When you could begin to think if things can turn around, you can be sadly mistaken. A woeful day for Bolton which lacked creativity and basic footballing knowledge. Ryan Kent had a great game against Nathan Byrne and was constantly running rings round the full back. Byrne gave away the second goal with a terrible throw-in straight to the opposition. The home crowd turned nasty and aimed their disgust at both manager and board. It was signed and sealed three minutes from time when Montoya casually strolled through an amateurish defence, had his first shot saved by Amos but finished off the rebound. A virtually empty stadium amplified their disgust at the final whistle.

DF: I'm responsible, whatever happens out there is down to me and I accept this is my fault. It was embarrassing for us to perform like that and I want to apologise to all fans out there today. I have nothing else to say at this moment.

CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE AFTER 14 GAMES

TABLE AFTER 14.webp

Having lost half of their current games, Bolton slip closer towards the bottom three, four points above Middlesbrough. It looks like another season fighting for survival for Bolton. Chairman Dave Boddy has acknowledged it is going to be a tough season to remain in the Championship after no investment into the playing squad this season and states avoiding relegation will be 'a succesful season'. The animosity between chairman-manager-fans is at its highest in recent years with players being reported as saying it is not a nice place to be around right now. If Ferguson wanted a managerial challenge, he came to the right town. To be fair to Ferguson, many pundits have said even the likes of Emery and Carrera would struggle to do a job at Bolton.

How are Fylde getting on mate

FYLDE RESULTS: OCTOBER 2023

Manager Joey Barton has been given the backing of chairman David Haythornthwaite. The chairman has spoken publicly and believes Barton has what it takes to turn things around at Mill Farm and guide Fylde back into the football league. The fan base is currently split with many fans writing into the Non-league football paper saying he should be sacked with immediate effect whilst the other half state Barton has good management philosophies and should be granted the time to see them through.

With the convincing win against Blackpool in the local derby and a win to qualify for the F.A. Cup 1st Round, Barton is safe for the time being.
