Three games to go until Everton can close the door on this terrible second half to the season. Villa had also fell of the pace this season and were in 10th, 5 points off 6th. Everton went with three in the middle, Partey, Garner and Samardzic with Danny Mead getting another start in attack. Roony was back from injury and started on the right for Everton. Aston Villa had a corner on 12 minutes and it was a simple routine to the near post for Posch to head in, 1-0 to Villa. Where was the marking? Branthwaite shaking his head but he should have done better. Lars Samardzic went down with a knee injury and he was replaced by Carlos Alcaraz on 28 minutes. Villa doubled their lead just before half-time when Diaby thought quickly on the edge of the box and fired it through the defence to make it 2-0. All but over here for Everton. Luiz was on fire and he made it 3-0 with a long range strike two minutes later, Everton embarrassed. The first half went on and Patterson put in a great tackle on Ramsey and passed forward to Roony, he cut inside on the right and thread it through to Mead and he smacked it against the underside of the bar, unlucky. Everton were trying to suck Villa in and it worked on 5 minutes, Roony bombed forward and lashed the ball wide to Moleiro, he passed to Alcaraz amd he found Digne bombing down the left, a quick one-two and Alcaraz was in the clear, he looked up and curled it round Martinez to pull a goal back for Everton! Everton were trying to press Aston Villa but they were too quick on the ball, it went wide to the right to Posch and he blasted it across the box for Watkins to slide it home, 4-1. Gonzalez and Konate came on for Moleiro and Mead. Roony put in a good shift and was getting down the right very well, Martinez saved from his close range shot on 73 minutes and he was then brought off on 77 for Martin Tejon. Maffeo also came on for Patterson. Everton got the ball down the left quickly to Komate, he turned to face goal and played in Alcaraz but he hit the post on 90 minutes. It was quick successive goals that put this game away for Villa. Douglas Luiz was in incredible form and had a fantastic game. Everton were creative but denied by poor finishing and great goalkeeping.

Everton vs West Ham United

Lineup vs West Ham.webp

The last home game of the season for Everton and it was Beto who came out this week ralling the players and supporters. Demanding that the players need to give it all they have got in the last home game at Bramley Moore this season. Everton are desperate for three points and Ferguson made the call to start Beto. Branthwaite was dropped to the bench after being caught out a few times against Aston Villa so Igor Zubeldia got the nod. Ferguson made the interesting decision to play Patterson at Left Back and Maffeo at Right Back, the supporters will be pleased to see Lucas Digne out of the side. The fans were disappointed with Ferguson’s management of the club but also sympathised with him as he was clearly out of his depth in the Premier League. Will David Moyes get one last victory over Duncan Ferguson? The opening minutes were quick and West Ham were looking to overload the Everton box with the full backs getting forward at any opportunity, Everton evaded the early pressure and went up the other end, Maffeo played it through to Roony who cut inside and passed back to Maffeo who tested Lunin from the edge of the box but he punched it clear. Kudus got onto it through the middle and played it right to Bowen, he came forward but Garner done very well to get back and tackle him, fast pacey start but West Ham looking threatening. Alcaraz was having a good game and driving forward when Everton won the ball back but yet to find a clear way through to goal. Garner sent the corner to the near post on 40 minutes and it was Carlos Alcaraz who got in front of Ward-Prowse to head it in! Everton with the lead! Alcaraz showing Everton what they are buying! West Ham got on the ball and Garner put in a tackle on Kudus, Partey got to it and lashed it forward for Moleiro to chase down the left, Roony was screaming for it in acres of space but Moleiro took it wide and had two to beat, he tried the cross but Lunin rose and claimed it. Kerkez had it on the left and had time to cross, Zirkzee chested it down inside the box and Ward-Prowse out of nowhere rifled it in from close range on the stroke of half-time, 1-1. Three minutes into the second half and it wasn’t good, Alvarez was given too much space outside the box and Pickford’s feeble attempt to parry it saw it go in and give The Hammers the lead. Everton made a double change on 60 minutes, Danny Mead was on for Beto and Branthwaite replaced Zubeldia. Everton went into full attack mode with Branthwaite and Matsima pushing high up the pitch, Garner fancied a shot from the edge of the box but it was just inches over the bar. Partey won the header from the West Ham goal kick and Alcaraz played in Mead who left Bamba stranded, his shot was saved by the oncoming keeper, well read. Lucas Digne replaced Patterson, Onana replaced Partey and Gonzalez came on for Moleiro, 13 minutes left and Everton need a goal. Frustrating final end to the game as West Ham defended deep and sat in. Moyes earned the victory and Everton fell to another defeat. Ferguson knew the writing was on the wall and after three and a half years at the club, it was possibly time for it all to end. He walked the pitch with the players and could only commiserate for what had been served in the last four months. It has simply been unacceptable.

Radio silence came from the club this past week and the fans had the right to feel frustrated but thr assumption is the season will be finalised and Duncan will leave quietly in the summer. Moshiri must have a plan in place to bring in his successor. The last game of the season was upon us and Everton, for the first time in months had a strong side to choose from. Alex Valle got the nod for his first game since February after an injury nightmare and Cunha came back but returned to the bench. Carlos Alcaraz had played well in the last two games despite being on the losing end so he rightfully kept his place behind Beto. Chelsea played high up the pitch and allowed Everton no time on the ball. James knocked it forward for Caicedo to nudge it over the line inside the six yard box on 15 minutes. Everton put some good balls in for Beto but he struggled to hit the target, it just wasn’t going right for him lately. Fernandez got the ball wide to Sterling who used his pace to get goal side and bury it past Pickford on the verge of half-time. Ferguson made three changes at half-time. Onana came on for Samardzic, Cunha replaced Alcaraz and Konate came on for Beto. Chelsea were cruising and looked good, a win here will guarantee Europa League football next season and Everton could not get close. Everton didn’t turn up yet again and it’s a win for Chelsea as the Blues get into Europe. Everton, atrocious and finish the season in 16th. There really is no excuse and players out there today were walking around. It was another disaster.

Duncan, the season has come to an end, it didn’t end well and the second half of the season is one to forget for the supporters. What is the message?

DF: We know that what we have been through is not good enough and the standards have not been met. I put my own neck on the line when I say that, it’s on all of us but it takes a big person to stand up and take his responsibility. We’ll see who comes out and takes responsibility. I’ve let the club down this season, it was a season for us to take the next step but we have gone backwards. If the chairman believes I can fix it, I’d love to be given the opportunity to but I also care for the club and if there’s a better man than me, then get him in and let’s get the club back to where it belongs.

FINAL LEAGUE TABLE 2026/27

Final League Table 2026-27.webp

SEASON REVIEW 2026/27

After finishing 10th and getting to the League Cup Final in 2025/26, Everton were one of the sides expected to push on and battle it out for Europe. The season started relatively well with Everton in 7th after ten games. Everton started to slip into the second half of the season and were out of both cups by February. A 7-3 thrashing at home to Crystal Palace was a warning of things to come and their next and last win was against Burnley on 20th February. Everton were hit with injuiries and had to adapt but nobody expected them to go on and lose the next eleven games on the run and end ther season just six points above relegation. Somehow, Duncan Ferguson kept his job and as we begin to move through the summer, there is still no talk from the club and what is going to happen.

Arsenal won the league again and had it sewn up a while back finishing the season 16 points above Man Utd. Man City and Chelsea made up the rest of the top four whilst Crystal Palace had a fantastic season finishing 5th and claiming the last Champions League spot due to England claiming the highest coefficent spot. Liverpool underachieved spending most of their season outside of the top four but secured a Europa League spot finishing 6th. Brentford won their second F.A Cup in three years and qualfied once again for the Europa League. Leeds United enjoyed a successful season winning the Europa Conference League beating FC Copenhagen in the final. Tottenham missed out on Europe as they were beaten by Villarreal in the Europa League Final. At the other end it was a poor season for Brighton as they only won two games all season finishing 20th and Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough were the other two teams to be relegated to The Championship. Burnley and Sunderland both survived the drop to remain in The Premier League for a second season. Next season will see the return of Bournemouth, Wolves and Southampton as Luton Town missed out on a Premier League return losing to Southampton on penalties in the Play-Off final.

DUNCAN FERGUSON EXTENDS EVERTON CONTRACT!

Duncan Ferguson contract.webp

After speculation that Ferguson's contract would come to an end and the club would part ways, Farhad Moshiri defied all expectation and offered the manager a two year extension. Everton will have to make a huge U-turn this season and turn around performances otherwise the fan base will not be on board with the current regime and this could cause tension for Ferguson and Moshiri.
