Ford Escort Mexico Mk1

Love the look of those new ones, but for me, it's got to be the 1998 STi 22B or the RB5. And the STi V5&6 will always hold a special place in my heart.

After the underwhelming look of the WRX's in recent years, I am so pleased they have released a great looking WRX again!!!!

It just looks mean and aggresive and the changes they've made to the chassis are amazing, it's like rails are being laid in front of the car. It actually scares me a little to think that the speeds I'm going around corners are nowhere near the cars limits, I've not even cause it to break a sweat. These are corners that the WRX would have been leaning and understeering around and been a handful.

I've not stopped smiling in the last 8 months and still keep stopping to look back and grin when I park it.

There's nothing worse than a badly done MR2 based Ferrari copy.

I'd shove a Ford 2.9 V6 (Cosworth fettled from the Scorpio) in one of these '33 Ford Coupe replica bodies;

That's just wrong.

I saw a great little series on Channel 4 a few months ago which was called "For the Love of Cars" which was about a ridiculously skilled mechanic and his mate Phil Glenister (the main character from life on Mars) who took a few iconic cars and restored them for auction. The first of the series being the Ford Escort Mexico.

Here it is if anyone wants to watch it. The whole series is good though and well worth a watch:

I watched that, that tuned Mex at the end was sublime

My local dealer twisted my arm and flogged me this!

Ford Escort RS Turbo (1).webp

Crazy car, had it on motorway and the speedo needle went right past the 140 mark. Mind my mechanic friend tinkered with the turbo for me and we got a bit more power out of it. True speed, I don't know perhaps 130 to 135. Really enjoyed the car though, reckoned the Mk 2 were slightly detuned compared to this.

Dead easy to do lol, wind the actuator out on the turbo so it produces more boost, think they were only set to about 9psi at standard

Just remembered this video, Ken Block and Chris Atkinson (former Subaru WRC driver) having some fun in a Mk2 Escort:

Two things to say about that vid, escort RS shouldn't have any fancy twin clutch or flappy paddle or sequential gearbox and Ken Block is a douche of the highest order.
