Wasting Light, to be released on April 12th :D :D :D

I'm a massive Foos fan, so this is great news. Even better news though, is what the album seems to sound like. Now I loved Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, but I was hoping they'd return to a harder, more raucous sound. They do the ballads and stuff well, and the last album was a great example of this, but I do believe they're at their best with a more energetic, mosh-able, kind of sound.

Well... here's a video for one of the new tracks:

1.) PHWOAR!
2.) They really do make awesome videos.

They also released a snippet of another song:

CAN'T. WAIT.

What band arent you a massive fan of?

Hehe.

To be fair mate, the Foos are and always have been one of my top 10. Perhaps it's partial overflow from my Nirvana fandom/obsession/religious devotion, but they're an awesome band; one of the very few rock bands to combine commercial and critical success in the 21st century.

I was thinking that jesus..

For me the Foo Fighters jumped the shark years ago

Can they come back? dunno tbh i doubt it though

I notice Novoselic seems to have recorded a song for this album thats one thing about big Dave is he never forgets his mates.

I think jumping the shark is a bit harsh.

Although, if I was to rank their albums...

1.) The Colour and the Shape - 1997
2.) Foo Fighters - 1995
3.) There is Nothing Left to Lose - 1999
4.) In Your Honour - 2005
5.) One by One - 2002
6.) E,S,P&G - 2007

So you might have a point in that they've been on a downward spiral, for the most part. I still really like all their albums though, and I wouldn't give any of them less than 4*s, if I was someone who felt it necessary to convey their musical preferences through arbitrary quantitative data. Which I am. :P

However listening to this new track, it seems a lot heavier than usual Foo stuff. And I know Dave loves, and can do, the harder stuff (early Nirvana, Probot), so fingers crossed they take the whole album in this direction.

Dave Grohl was tweeting clues to locations of secret gigs here the past few weeks. Once you figured out the clues, you show up at the venue and for $20 you get to see the Foo Fighters up-close and live in cozy small, personal venues.

I love him, I do.

I will not, will not, miss them this time, if/when they tour.

they will tour they always do

Lets be fair albums dont make the cash likes they used too so touring is pure honey to them all.

Oh and i agree with your assesment of thier albums to me its a case of what could have been with them, now there a ageing adlut rock band with their glory days long behind them

A heavy rock-ish REM if you will.

Very harsh. They're not that old, mate. They need to do something a bit different, which they did with their last album (and in the process got decent critical acclaim and new fans). However my preference for the Foos is harder stuff, and that's why I'm excited for this new album. I don't expect it to be groundbreaking (I have the dozens of new, emerging bands I'm into -- and Radiohead, hehe -- for that). I'm just hoping for a kickass, raucous record which will be a lot of fun to see live. I don't think Echoes was that album... nor was In Your Honour, either, but the early signs for this record point to a place I want to visit! :P
