What do you guys think of this:

Pretty consistent number of draws, but increased in the early days.

Less goals over time:

Interesting that all leagues are similar, scoring-wise.

Anyways, thought it was a good read. Good read with a cup of joe on a cool Saturday morning, I think.

Interesting to see that draws went down quite sharply in the 80s coinciding with the introduction of 3 points for a win.

But then I see they went down just as sharply in the mid 50s and the mid noughties.

same in the mid 20s but that possibly had something to do with the change in the offside law and the difficulty of 'playing' for a draw when goals are flying in.

Wow, I mean seriously wow in a stat-tastic way

and your point is??

My point is obvious. Football has changed over time, man. :)

But seriously, to me, someone who has not cared about football much until about five years ago, I like to see the history of the game, and the effects of rule changes. I was personally shocked at the drop in scoring in the 60-70s, showing conservative approach or possibly more lenient and organized defense. Would the higher points for a win actually make teams score less? Perhaps this made teams go ahead, and then park the bus. If you get the lead, and stand to lose only one point, maybe you wouldn't mind venturing forward to get that extra goal and increase the Goal Difference? But losing two points, you might sit back and be happy to defend, even if it's at the expense of the goal difference. Also, the team to score first is most likely the better team, and they might be more capable of shutting a game down.

I'm not sure, but I thought the article was interesting, considering how little I know of the history of the rules and game throughout the last centuries.

I dont come on here to read metrics and charts. Ban yourself immediately.

Trying to match this to points available is ridiculous, you play for a win, regardless of how many points that gives you. Its more likely to align with styles. In the 80's there was a different style preferred than with teams in the 90's.
