First step to new ownership

I think the ownership issue is a tough one, there are some great owners out there, but there are some shockers too, for every Man City and Tottenham, who splash the cash, there are Cardiff City's who have had their identity removed and MK Dons (Wimbledon) who have been moved out of their city and rebranded and re badged like a USA "franchise".

Personally I dont think Kenwright would ever give up control of the club, he might bring in new "investors", but he would kill us all before he even relinquishes one drop of power!! lol:rant:

I could be wrong like, it has happened before..........

Apparently we were close to getting them.

I can't remember who told me this so it means nothing, but I'm not making it up. Someone who deals in football business or something said that he was at the meeting where the Sheiks took City over, and we were there too, and basically it came down to the stadium and the fact that City were the first they talked to. Our boys must have been off at the buffet or something.

They wanted a club that had a nearby rival which was more successful (trophies and commercial), and then to take over the "smaller" club and rub the other's face in the dirt with it.

I can't even remember if it was on TV or I read it or someone ITK told me at Goodison... but I remember those words.

The Mansoors were never going to buy into any other club, only Manchester City. They were/are great friends with Shiniwatra and when he had to get rid of City quickly because he could not meet his obligations(another director had paid players wages for three months prior to the takeover) ,he turned to his friends the Mansoors. Its true that they were investigating buying into sport, but they had not approached any club in the UK, although they had apparently looked at some US franchises. Source; a City director and sports editorial at a broadcasting company. The City director was not the same one who paid the wages.
The Mansoor purchase of City was also about earning credibility in the UK and beyond, and in part an attempt at a 'cultural revolution'. Hence the regeneration of the Eastlands area, with big investment from the Monsoors...Manchester Council are the big winners here.
Poster above is right about them not liking seeing the Emirates logo everywhere. The competition between the oil/business rich states in the Middle East is immense.

No it wasn't Steve.

The purchase of Man City was quite simply to provide a Worldwide advertising hoarding for their fledgling state in it's quest to become a tourist destination akin to Dubai, for when the wells run dry.

The investment into City - generates hours upon hours of TV coverage across the World for their Brand, as well as column inches in the press, net coverage etc etc etc. So whilst their investment is vast, the payback in terms of the amount of advertising it generates is worth the cash to them. One day it'll have served it's purpose though, and they'll leave it to be self sustaining or not.

You're wrong. (Or rather your source isn't telling you the truth)

100% correct, that was the initial driver behind it.

As I said a couple of pages back, Emirates Airline having their logo all over the telly whenever you watch any sport rubs up the Al Nahyan family no end.

They wan't Abu Dhabi to be viewed as a bit more of a destination in it's own right, rather than being the boring city 'next door to Dubai.' (Or even worse, a City IN Dubai for some of the clowns that think Dubai is a country.)

They have a long way to go, but they are investing in more long-term projects both at home and abroad. They will get there.

Yes...the advertising was important to generate their international credibility...thats what I meant...advertising results in many things...it sells stuff, and it sells reputation, credibility, and brand awareness. So we're both right !! In fact, they still don't have a brand as strong as Emirates, but they're doing OK !!

I agree with most of what you say, but my source is adamant that it was the connection with Shiniwatra which resulted in the sale of City, and that the Mansoors had not looked with any great interest at any other club in the UK, although they had looked at franchises in the US.

Does anybody seriously believe that we were nearly taken over by the Man City Arabs ?

We now have people who have contacts with the Mansour family posting on GOT. You couldn't make it up.
What next, members of Liverpool City Council posting regular updates on this forum.
Abramovichs best pal telling us that he thought it was Everton he was buying , but took a wrong turn at a crossroads and ended up at Chelsea instead.

Its been there for a few years now.

Its is ideally placed as its before the M57, so you can get to Sefton, the M58, south Liverpool, M62 and Cheshire.
