Try disabling the Flash Add-In, that's normally the culprit.

If it behaves itself with Flash disabled then it can be a nightmare to sort and it's actually easier to uninstall it and start again

This. Flashplayer/FF/some combo has gone to sh*t recently, and always freezes up Firefox for me. I keep meaning to rollback to FF 32 or something, as I never used to have problems with it. However I find FF to be the best browser, so use that for general browsing and Opera for watching youtube/netflix/anything that uses a lot of Flash...

Chrome is so poor on my mac book pro.

Try firing up task scheduler from admin tools, find the task to update Flash which is probably set to run every hour.

Disable it and see if FF behaves. If it behaves then reenable the task but don't let it run so often, otherwise just reenable it.
