think we will end up 6th and hopefully that dosnt get us europa league think its pointless and we havnt a big enough squad for it and our league form would suffer next year if we had to play europa league next year

History says otherwise mate. Our league form hasn't suffered the last few times we've been in Europe.

Arsenal will get top 4 they are too flukey as we have seen chelsea will be above us now and spurs will probably get europa I would put big money on us at 6th mate

maybe but look at newcastle this year and when arry was at spurs he basically played a 2nd team in the europa league to concentrate on the league dont get me wrong would love european nights at goodison but not at a cost

Thing is, if we're not good enough to compete in the Europa and Prem, then what's the point in competing at all ?

If we get in the Champions League by some miracle we'll get knocked out at the group stages, and our league form will have suffered. That means we'll miss out on the Champions League the following season and possibly Europe altogether.

It's a horrible cycle of pointlessness if that's the case.

in fairness europe is champions league or nothing europa is the capital one cup of europe made even worse with the fact that teams who finish 3rd in their group in champs league then enter the europa

All i know is i'd rather be watching Everton play on a Thursday than Spurs or Chelsea. I think people need to accept that we're not going to be winning the Champions League, and that it's not going to make us one of the big boys if we did manage to qualify for it.

Surely it makes more sense trying to win whatever we can ? We've had nothing for 18 years !

You get heavily compensated financially for any dip in league form that may come about through playing in the Champions League, the money allows you to strengthen and the prestige makes you a more attractive club. If you spend well then your investment should limit the degree to which the European competition impinges on your league form. Qualifying for the Champions League is not pointless.

The same does not apply to the Europa League. There's no big financial rewards, no opportunity to strengthen, but plenty more games to play, and this is when it starts to become pointless!

My fear is that a Europa League campaign will make qualifying for the Champions League unlikely, and I don’t think we are too far away at the moment, but adding another 6 or 7 games to such a small, vulnerable squad is going to be too much.
