Fernandes...Again.

Sorry mate, but I reckon what he has shown us towards the end has been nothing short of inspirational, and we need to be fair that in the games at the start of his loan he was very much lacking fitness and the sharpness needed for the Premiership.

This boy is quality, he can take a free-kick better than Arteta, he has ability to pick a pass, he can shoot, he is strong, and at 6m its a steal.

I would bite their hand off.

And I am happy to agree with you. I also believe that Spud is better picking up balls on the edge of the box after set pieces and firing them back in.

I guess its all about opinions really. Sharpy obvioulsy prefers Johnson but isn't doubting Fernandes's potential which is fair enough.

From the Sunday People.

Everton finally look set to land Manuel Fernandes from Valencia for £6million.
The Portuguese ace has been told he can leave the Spanish club by new boss Unai Emery, having spent most of last season on loan at the Blues.
Goodison chief David Moyes has been desperate to sign the 22-year-old midfielder for two seasons and is in talks with Valencia about bringing him in on a permanent basis.
Moyes tried to sign Fernandes when the player left Benfica a year ago, but thought his £10m price tag was too high.

At the cut-down price, Valencia have told Everton the deal must be done by June 20 and Moyes is confident he has finally snared his man.
the words "bite your hands off" to get this guy comes to mind. But given the issues about is "ownership", if that's all thrown in, then well and good.

Sources on this are difficult to establish. We know Valencia paid soemthing like £12m for him. Its not really clear if that was just for Benefica (in that case they really were foolish, and Benfica were happy to take £6m off us).

If the report is really true, with a pre-season under his belt (which he has not had with us), that to me would put one foot on 4th place for me.

I think it's a great deal for all involved really.

Valencia need the cash badly i hear.

Everton need a player like Manny, a player who has the ability to hold the ball, not panic and pass the ball superbly, he also is fairly quick, strong for his size and has a good shot. One thing that is missing from his first season is his tackling, he makes alot of shitouse challenges and seems to not get 'stuck in' like he did in his first season, but a pre season with Everton's arguably 3rd best ever manager, will work wonders and Moyesy will have him back to his best in no time.

Also Fernandes himself need's a club where he feels loved and fits in. He's moved about alot and hasnt settled into a club for long since he left Benfica, he also seemed to have had more interest in partying with Miguel in Spain then playing Football and put on loads of weight. But Moyes soon got his head screwed on, he seems to be in with the lads at Everton and even has his own handshake with the Yak i see before the game (yes i bum himn that much i watch him while he's waiting to kick off for the game from my seat).

Probably one of my favourite players ever and has the ability to be world class.

I agree.

I have said before many times that Manny's problem last season was that his whole life is in turmoil. He wanted to sign for us, his owners would not let him, he went to a place he did not want to go, he ended up back with us, his future was always up in the air, he could be called back to valencia at any moment, etc etc.

Anyone that thinks he is [Poor language removed] is very misinformed. Sometimes you go to work with your head up your ass as life is getting you down and you don't have a good day. Try it with 40k fans screaming at you and media bullshit bugging you and you may come close. I am not saying manny is the answer, but he is a feckin huge factor in our future. I feel we need him(not just want) to help the Moyes man in our revolution. But to do that he needs a concrete base to call home. He has chosen us 12 months ago and other parties [Poor language removed] it for him. I was hurt more than most in the first instance as I was one of his biggest backers and fought tooth and nail on this site when I said he was coming. I hold no bad feelings towards him and I would like to invite him home to us, to the toffees, to the Old Lady of Goodison, and he can pick up Arshavin from the airport on the way.

Give the lad a home and he will make it a warm one. End of statement.

The tackling bit did piss me off last season. He showed in his first spell here that he is a perfectly capable tackler yet he continually [Poor language removed] out last season. Maybe he was carrying an injury. I think he’s one of those players that have to be at the top of his fitness to produce. If he’s not then he makes silly mistakes, doesn’t go into tackles and doesn’t track back. In his first spell he rarely gave the ball away, looked very strong on the ball and put his foot in.

Fernandes is without doubt the most naturally gifted player I’ve seen at Everton since Rooney. He oozes quality and has the ex factor to take us up a level. I really do feel he’s capable of scoring 8-10 goals a season. He generates alot of power in his shots and tends to have two or three digs at goal a game. He’s definatly got it in his locker. He also has the ability to open up defences and create. A midfielder with strength, two feet, skill, passing ability and the ability to nick a goal don’t come around often and we should take it. It would be disappointing if we missed out again.

He’s a diamonds with a few rough edges. His rough edges are things that can be sorted though. Work rate and defensive abilities are his only major weaknesses and if anyone can drill them into him its Moyes. By the way I was talking to a Valencia fan today who said he believes Fernandes is fully owned by Valencia as they bought him for around 12 million. He could be wrong but that’s what he’s heard.

100% agree mate.

He needs a full pre season at a club where he knows he has a permanent deal and a manager that wants him.

I kept on hoping that we'd get Valencia from Wigan instead of Fernandes from Valencia.

That being said 6M is a decent price for him. Considering he was worth 12M last year. And that's what we paid for Baines and Fernandes is better I believe.

how values change, in the manny or huddlestone thread i said i would prefer huddlestone for 5 mill, the price doing the rounds at the time, than manny for 12. that was a no brainer in my opinion.
Now its Manny for 6, or hud for 10, again a no brainer. Manny for 6 mill is a fair price considering him circumstances at the moment. Looking at the big picture however you feel we are getting a sweet deal:D

Yup. It is amazing how fast things get [Poor language removed] up and [Poor language removed] up things move fast.

Ditto. Well said.

I actually found out today that Gelson Fernandes and Manny are cousins.

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2008/06/06/1212259019315.html

It says under Gelson's profile that he is related to Fernandes. Very suprising considering I was talking about Gelson Fernandes as a possible signing not so long ago.

They do look like each other a little.

Remember when every blue panicked when the (Blue Moon) signed a "fernandes". Makes me laugh now, but I [Poor language removed] myself back then

On a side note, imagine if we signed, Alexander Frei and then we would get Gelson Fernandes (in my opinion)

Just food for thought for people.

(I don't know how to rename links so I apologise)

Danny/Dylan/Cal/Neiler/Mick etc help please. I can give more info if I knew these things
