This is true.

Although I don't think any amount of training can prepare you for that.

I'm not saying the police never do wrong or that they should have shot the fella 9 times, but you can understand why they did surely.

There's no small amount of evidence that in the heat of the moment (surging with adrenaline at least, possibly with roods and other stuff), police often make very bad decisions. You and I tend to make bad decisions in the same circumstances, but we're not usually holding a gun.

For better or worse, this is largely their training. They receive a call that someone has robbed a store, and is now walking around outside the store acting erratically. When they arrive at the scene, the man appears to audibly confront them, ignores their commands, and then appears to pull a weapon from his pocket and charge them.

Whether they made the right decision or not, there's unfortunately little time for reason. They responded exactly as they're trained to respond.

He didn't charge them.

He didn't charge them.

Not sure what you mean by "charge," and maybe I'm being too unspecific. He may have been 3-4 feet from them as the initial reports said, but he closed his distance by 1/2 or 2/3 and pulled an item from his pocket; nowhere in the US will you find anyone who would say he didn't charge them. He didn't exhibit the behavior one would expect if he was following their commands or desired a conversation with them. Was he an actual threat? Probably not, but his actions had the appearance of aggression, and little else.

Some of you are impossible to reason with. This thread is just for you guys to continue to insult America and its guns, police officers, etc. Good for you!

You cannot reason with some of these posters. They are blind to what actually happened.

they had numerous options, they chose the only one guaranteed in the death of another innocent human being(yes he was innocent at that time)

If walking towards them means 'charge' nowadays then, yes.
