Fellaini

Schweinstiger, Xavi, Khedira, Fabregas etc.

Honestly Baines I think is among the best fullbacks in the world, Fellaini is in the category below that in his position. He's the Nat Lofthouse to the Puskas' and Di Stefano's being produced by spain and germany right now.

Oh hang on, are you talking CMs in general? Fair enough if so.

I think Xavi, Fab etc are completely different kinds of players though.

I honestly think he's better than Khedira mind, and I have no problem saying this as I heart Sammy and watch him a lot. I'm confident in this opinion; he doesn't impose himself like Fellaini on the opposition.

Honestly can't name a midfielder currently playing in England I'd swap for Fellaini. Toure or Modric, maybe.

There's a few in the spanish and german leagues that make him look like an amateur mind.

yaya toure is the only one i would probably rate as better than fellaini, modric aint all that though. you have others like silva and apparently kagawa seems the real deal. but as for as deeper lying CM's go, Felli and Yaya are streets above, yaya is just a quality box-to-box midfielder though and although felli will shade him in the defensive area, yaya is much better going forward

Yeah I think it's entirely fair to compare any player who plays in the deep cm role with any other because it's all down to style, you can play two destroyers, two deep lying playmakers etc. It's the players skill that define what that position means.

I disagree to be honest. It may be the same position but I'd always rather compare players in the same role.

If we're talking absolute stonking world class CMs, I'm not sure there are any of the more defensive roles that will go down in history. Whereas Xavi etc will do. Pirlo too I hope. Fellaini's still young mind, and constantly improving.

Agreed.

Say we play Gibson and Fellaini tomorrow behind Naismith or Osman. You can swap Fellaini for Xavi, Fabregas, Schweinstiger, Pirlo etc and still have a working formation. And we'd be much better.

Hence why while I wouldn't swap Fellaini for any other player in England (bar maybe Toure) I wouldn't make that same promise about players in Europe.
