I am a recent convert to the Blues and have been following religiously from the US since the start of last season.

With that out of the way I want everyone's opinion of Fellaini. My first thought was he was to slow and unsure of himself with the ball on his feet to help the team. I later came to like his defensive abilities and he has some games where his tackling is spot on, but looking back over the past year+ I am starting to notice this team plays better without him.

Initially I thought the main cause for the turn around last year was the Donovan/Arteta return. Then the slow start this year made me look again. Now Fellaini is injured again and we start to look like the team we saw the end of last year.

Whenever Fellaini plays we seem to have a great defense with no attack and often get shut down on offense. Is it time to think perhaps fellaini should be sold once healthy?

I think he sits too deep (under instruction) which pulls mikel back as well and so everything is then too far back and nullifying.

wouldn't be so bad with pacey wingers as you can play counter attacking football, as was seen at the weekend, cos seamus had a field day and just loves taking 'em on

agree 100%..

Fellaini also has a remarkable burst of speed as well... contrary to what you would think with his lethargy, saw him just before kick off against Citeh and he did this quick burst that was like usain bolt, and with his length of stride I doubt that there is a defender on the planet that could catch him, when I saw it I knew he was fired up and he certainly was.

No way should we be thinking of selling him.. Remember the Man Citeh game last season when he was on form and confident?

In a word no. Because when Arteta was out for 9 months Fellaini was one of the main men/man. And for one no one in our team has his height (important defensively) and when he's on form he's really special.

You also have to remember Arteta and Fellaini are still learning to play together. Arteta was out 9 months and Fellaini another 3 months so they really just need time to adapt. Putting two players together in central midfield and just expecting them to gel is unrealistic. Not that they can't play together they can. Its just about each learning how to play together.

I pointed this out in the Fulham and Birmingham games. Each was learning when to go forward and when to stay back. Infact Moyes was shouting one or other to go forward at Birmingham. Distinctly heard it from the sidelines on the tv coverage.

Its just time mate. Thats whats needed.

Its not Moyes doing that. Its lack of understanding of each other that's doing that.

Moyes was screaming to mikel to get forward at Birmingham. whilst fellaini covered. You could hear it on the evertontv highlights.

At other times both went up but Mikel took same position as he scored against Liverpool just outside the box.

Fellaini in the box and mikel just outside from setpieces. Thats when they'll be deadly.

And in open play depends where both are. But one needs to join the attack.

Both would play better with an anchor for me, while the midfeild could be devastateing with a bit of pace and penetration on the wings.

Don't say that. They'll be going "Moyes Out" "he's too negative" and stuff on here.

I'm still staggered by the "Under instruction" comment above.

Do you lot not have Everton TV or what?

Moyes screaming "GO ONNNN MIKEL .... JOIN IN!!!!" in a counter.... jesus. It was there to be heard.

Its a fine balance i think, playing one up front you need at least two or three of your midfeilders to be chipping in with 10 + goals a season, Mofro, Arteta, Cahill and Pienaar are defo capable. I still MNofro and Mikel are learning to play with each other, both are used to being the midfeild lyncepin, i think both would be far more dangerous if they were let of thier leash a bit, a heitinga anchor wouldnt be a bad thing for some games at the expense of Super Tim - when he hits a bad patch or is fater travelling halfway aourn the world.

Id see us playing it against the likes of Stoke, Wolves, Blackburn etc.
