If Fellaini stays then he has to play in midfield. He and Gibson have shown themselves to be a dominant pairing and I'm sick of seeing him being wasted as a ten goal-a-season target man. That role was fine for Cahill but Fellaini has a lot more to offer.

Carsley was a decent player, but hes not fit to lace fellainis boots, anyone who thinks carsley is in anyway better is mental

Carsley was a better defensive midfielder by some considerable distance, he provided far better protection to his back four, well, in a 4-5-1 he did at least.

Smeared in melted cheese because he has probably played his last game in an Everton shirt. I hope not though.

Can anyone point me towards a breakdown of Felli's goals this past season? I'm curious about how many came from open play and how many came from set pieces... because he'll continue slotting headers from set pieces whichever position he plays in.

Another reason to keep him deeper is that when he is deployed that way he offers himself up to the back four as an easy outlet pass. He seems comfortable bringing the ball forward and this sees us maintain possession better than a 60-yard hoof-and-hope ever could. He's a classic box-to-box midfielder.

Anywhere in the middle third, as long as it's high tempo...he disappears if there's not a lot of action. He's the complete opposite of Gravesen in that he does well with the headless chicken role. Close down, win the ball and break. Football, innit.

Roaming all over midfield breaking up play and stopping sides get out their half.

He does that job superbly and it means he's in a position to get into the box and be a nuisance when we inevitably win it back and get a cross in.

He's a very dangerous player arriving late into the box. Hopefully Bob will know this and use him to his fullest. I think he could still score round 10 goals even without being played behind the front man when you consider how much we dominate possession against most sides these days.

Essentially not bothered about which role he plays but rather will he be here to play any of them. Notice no enquiries have been made as far as we are aware as yet for him. This concerns me in as much will someone like Moyes comes in and make a late bid just as the season is to start ala Lescott which will leave us in the lurch.

**** off Ratcliffe this is the problem we have a gang of ex legends who are completely self defeatists and are happy to sell our best players as much as talk****e and the media, spurs legends claim bale must say, RS legends claim sewer rat must stay (before he wished to leave which neither baines or felli have done) yet southall aside our lot have their arses upright ready for a buggering disgusts me manager and players aside this clubs personell are rotton to the core how about a bit of optermism hey lads? if I had rep left this would have it all. I am absolutely sick of it. It is a nightmare trying to find a sensible balanced opinion about Everton without the same clichés being reeled out that have nothing to back them up. I don't know if even ex-blues are scared to upset their London-Manc paymasters. When forums like this have people spending the money we may get from selling our best players then what is the point. Why not just call yourself Blues on some football manager game and forget actually watching us. We were pushing for top four last season despite media bias, referee bias, lack of investment etc.. this was because players like Fell and Baines were playing for the club and each other in a way that made me proud. Ratcliffe was a great player for us in the end but couldn't care less what he says now.

I agree, it's unbelievable , that Evertonians want to get rid of our best players to bring in some no marks,we are a big club
And we should act that way,I hope our new manager is doing all he can to keep hold of our best players COYB
