I must say I am surprised at the level of bile towards the club and our fans on the BBC comments pages. I am not on Twitter etc. so that's the only place I see this stuff. I don't really know what we have done to upset non-kopites over decades of under-achievement. I can only assume they have had some unpleasant encounters at our hands somewhere along the line, because we aren't anyone's bogey team.

I think a lot of other fans are fed up of us because we have been a stagnant club for so long. We just exist in the top flight and never cause any upsets and it's boring for the neutral fans. Goodison is way past it's best and the away section is unappealing.
There is also a mix online of older fans with a chip on their shoulder about their lack of success in living memory compared to ours - likes of Newcastle & West Ham.
And to the fans following during the Premier League era they value Champions League Qualification like a trophy win. Newcastle, despite their relegations and no trophies are seen by a lot of younger fans as bigger than Everton due to Shearer, CL campaigns and Sky's obsession with their fanbase.
Weirdly I had a look at a Doncaster forum about their upcoming game with us and saw this bizarre post:
Many of us are misty eyed about Everton being a big club but for anyone under 30 who supports us, they are at best a mid table Premier League side who have been poor for longer that we have.
This is the type of narrative that has been created by other fans and the media and we are currently a very unfashionable club.
