FC United get all salty on the BBC

I was about to say 'harumph' at their stance, but then I remembered that they were set up in defiance of the new establishment, and so fair play to them for sticking up for the Sat 3pm tradition.

Top flight/professional football is too far down the line for that approach, but I think there's plenty of scope for lower league and amateur football to remain true to tradition.

I don't know about anyone else but I find TV coverage of football too intrusive already. If a game is televised all I want to do is watch it with as little chat by so called experts before during and afterwards as possible. In fact if they just broadcast the sound of the crowd without any commentary I would be happy! If I want the true match-day experience I go to a live match, non league is as good as any.

Ah, the good old days when The Big Match would start at 2.50pm on a Sunday, usually cutting straight to the team line-ups then on with the game. When Sky took over, suddenly the build-up was 2 hours, normally only associated with the legendary FA Cup final build-up on BBC. Really took the shine off it all.

Didn't Leeds fans recently protest over the number of fixtures they've had moved due to Sky? Apparently the money the club were getting from Sky wasn't covering the loss of gate receipts either. Mad stuff.

And who the **ck was Richard Keyes anyway - some jumped-up no mark, a never-was who somehow made it onto the telly.
Glad I dumped Sky and at least one lost of ex-RS pundit biffs.

Keys would drive me mad at half-time of some insipid 0-0 bore-off between Sheff Utd and Oldham, and he'd be like 'oofh, well, phew, how about that, what a half that was' etc. Sorry Richard but no-one's buying it.

Of course it is the huge amount of dosh being poured into the game that allows the media to virually take control witha willing accomplice in the form of the FA.

Me, i would like a return to play all games on a Saturday k.o at 3.00 pm.

Nothing but a charade from FC United. Presumably, it was a crap offer from the BBC. Despite their stance, they have previously allowed an FA cup tie to be moved to a Friday evening so that ESPN could cover it.

"In November 2010, FC United were drawn to play Rochdale in the 1st round of the FA Cup and ESPN requested our game be shown live on their channel on a Friday evening. The switch was not enforced by the broadcaster and the club had a choice. The Board reached the decision that it was in members' best interests to accept the offer from ESPN." http://www.fc-utd.co.uk/m_fcandtv.php

So basically, if the offer of TV money is too good to turn down, then they won't.
