Dude, start at the beginning with portman, watch ''Leon''. One of the best films ever made, criminally underrated, often overlooked, but a gem, off beat, humour, and a message. That rare thing.
'Princess bride' is a bit of a kids film, but well worth the effort. Really funny and points if you name the wrestler.

Still, male actor has got to be De Niro for me. Despite some crap, he's got a stunning list of credits. (Indie candidate would be William H. Macy for stuff like The Cooler and Fargo.)

Female? No competition, step forward Juliet Binoche. Chocolat, Three Colours: Blue, Unbearable Lightness of Being, Caché, etc. (Indie choice, probably Maggie Gyllenhaal for Secretary, Crazy Heart and Donnie Darko.)

I love Steve Buscemi. I was over the moon when I found out he was the lead in Boardwalk Empire. Too often he gets the small roles.
