Mine: U2, R.E.M., The Smiths, Billy Bragg, The Housemartins, The Jam, That Petrol Emotion, House of Love, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Pogues, XTC...to get it started.

I love Billy Bragg and the Smiths, too. In the past two years I've gotten to see Billy Bragg and Morrissey live and both were brilliant.

REM are all right as well. Gotta say Guns n Roses and Pixies too.

I adore Heavenly, but their first album didn't come out till 1991. They formed in the 80s though.

Yeah forgot the Pixies. Brilliant. I saw Bragg multiple times back in the early 90's when he was still at the height of his abilities. He's faded recently. Never saw the Smiths or Morrissey sadly.

Oh man, so jealous you got to see Billy Bragg then. It was odd, the thing I went to, it was a charity thing and there were a bunch of bands on the bill. I think most people had come to see another band (it was meant to be Dirty Pretty Things' last gig) and there were only like 2 or 3 people singing along to Billy Bragg's songs. It was kind of shocking really.

I think he's brilliant though, absolutely brilliant. One of my top favorites ever.

I think Morrissey is gigging next year, you've still got time :) I would just die if I got to see Johnny Marr at a proper gig but I don't know, he's with the Cribs now and I don't really fancy seeing them.

As for Pixies I listened to Doolittle for the first time the night before my first day of high school. I remember it really well. I still love that album.

Iron Maiden is 80's right?

Sure thing. My favourite album of theirs is from the 80s (Somewhere in Time).

And Metallica in their prime, Guns N' Roses with Appetite and Nirvana's first album is all some of my favourite 80s stuff.

Hey, maybe you guys can help me with this. I finally got around to listening to Appetite for Destruction a few months ago and was totally blown away. I never thought I would like it so I never bothered to listen to it, but it's completely amazing and I love it a lot. And I've listened to it about a million times since then. So where do I go from here? What other albums (other bands) should I look for? I just want something with awesome guitars like Appetite.

used to love them, saw them at the court, early 1990 have not heard from them in ages. ditto for a lot of that list. used to like the J&MC and the cars too (apart from fecking drive single!)

Honestly, seeing Bragg in 1990/91/92 was breathtaking. I worshipped the guy. I'd kill to see Marr and Morrissey perform again but it won't happen I don't think.

The Cars were awesome before MTV.

Appetite is probably the finest debut rock album of them all. Ace from start to finish. Shame about Axl being an implosive tool though; wrecking the band in their prime.

I love Alexander the Great, it's a great song.

Tis a belter. Maiden were ace in the 80s.
