It will be sanctions related. The government has just extended the ban on providing professional services to companies with a Russian connection so that it now covers audit services. BDO won’t want to even chance it with this one.

Auditors don’t normally resign due to going concern risks. They just put that qualification in the opinion.
Everton is not a Russian business though so it must be concerns about any links Morshiri has.

I understand he has resigned from all his roles that would be under sanctions so, could it be the guardian is putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 56853499 ?

Mind you the same journo who measured the pitch at BMD apparently

Anything illegal with the finances etc blame has to lie with the chairman , kenwright should face charges and severe jail time in my opinion

If it's illegal an audit firm won't walk away. They will just report that they are unable to provide an opinion or they will state certain practices are unable to be audited due to x y and z.

The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine continues to dominate our thoughts and actions.

Our priority continues to be the safety of our colleagues and their families in Ukraine. Our focus is providing financial assistance, transportation, accommodation, safe passage, where possible, and ongoing employment for when they’re ready. BDO firms across the world have come together to support our colleagues and find solutions to help mitigate the immediate humanitarian crisis that is engulfing the region.

Our focus on carefully coordinated support for our people needs to be backed up by carefully considered policy:

  1. No BDO firm will work with any sanctioned Russian and Belarussian entities including the Russian and Belarussian Government, Russian and Belarussian state-owned enterprises and sanctioned individuals as a consequence of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
  2. BDO does not have a network firm in Russia. The former Russian member firm operates entirely independently under the name of Unicon.
  3. BDO is removing BDO Belarus from its global network. We will work to support our clients in fulfilling our legal obligations and commitments. These changes are effective immediately. Implementation may take longer as we need to ensure an orderly transition. We will discharge our professional responsibilities and obligations to all relevant parties.
Since the outset, we have stated that we deplore the violation of international law and military aggression in all its forms. That continues to be our position and we hope that the loss of life and livelihood soon ceases and that all parties come together to establish an enduring peace.

I think if anything its to do with, that.

The rules cover provision of direct and indirect services. So Everton is controlled by Moshiri and his Russian links are the cause for concern.

So the provision of services to Everton is the indirect provision of services Moshiri. It’s to stop the use of shell companies to get around the restrictions

So nothing wrong the accounts at Everton just that Morshiri may still have links to sanctioned entities.

The original article implied financial impropriety at Everton which isn’t the case

I’m speculating but that’s my guess. Otherwise it would have to be a huge coincidence that this broke now a week or so after the ban on providing audit services to Russian linked companies was announced.

You'd like to think that Moshiri, an accountant I believe, will know what's what when it comes to the books. We've already had one mud slinging
muck raking dirt spreading bad mouthing s poo stiring defamation in the last year with our spending what happened to Burnley and Leeds
backstabbing by the way?

Accountants would kill their own family to make a few quid.

Attributing morals to those beancounters.

Lol.

Does the club have any remaining ties to the said Russian entities ?

This. They're not going to stop if anything illegal is going on.

They could cream themselves silly by discovering said illegality and recommending practices to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Suspect its a tenuous PR related link to Russia.
