With Joleon Lescott recently agreeing to stay with Everton until 2012, and following other recent contract negotiations and re-negotiations, a picture is starting to emerge that brings joy to any fan of the Grand Old Team. A revealing picture which makes me think “Moyes is getting there!”
Currently signed up at Everton until 2012 are Lescott, Jagielka, Baines and Hibbert at the back. Then we have Cahill, Arteta, Osman and soon Pienaar in midfield, with AJ and Yak up front. If we include Howard (signed until 2011), that is a pretty good starting line up right there.
There are still problems to solve, as was shown at Fulham last Sunday. We showed the bareness of our squad in certain areas, and combined with our midweek heroics, tiredness played its part too. But to be honest, this was one poor performance in an amazing 2008. We have made great efforts in the UEFA cup, the League cup and the Premiership . We also have player stability and a happy team who all work for one another.
All we need now is for chief bluenose Mr Kenwright to sort out a few issues. Let’s give the Moyes-iah some funds to grow the squad and continue on our current path, let’s get ourselves a new ground, and in five or ten years time we’ll be looking down on everyone in the table and be able to say “2007/2008 season is where it all started coming together”.
