Fans expectations

So this season, has certainly been an improvement but we're still sitting in the same place as previous seasons, maybe the league has gotten tougher and more challenging?

I've also noticed that our home fans turn up every home game expecting a win, which is effecting the atmosphere IMO. But when we we're struggling in some seasons, the atmosphere would seem better, agree?

Is the high fans expectation making the players play better or worse?

Discuss.

Worse. Think about it; if we were predicted 14th and we were doing as we are now, people would be buzzing off their tits and the atmosphere would be great as everyone is happy and ready to support the team.

With some people expecting us to get 4th and Champions League however, when we only do as badly as "mere" 6th, some people get upset and don't get behind the team.

However, expectation is simply impossible to avoid. The better you do, the higher the expectation. The only team who seem to go against that grain is Fulham.

Eh, we've got 60 points and two games left. In the Pl era, we've made 61 points 3 times, 63 points once and 65 points once and never any more than that.

This is about as good in the league as we've been since we've won it.

People are looking for excuses for us not doing better, whether it's blaming fan expectations or moyes contract or whatever but honestly this is just about how good we are. We'll finish probably where we deserve to.

If we'd put away more chances in the games we've dominated and not won, made less bad individual mistakes at the back, had better luck with injuries and ref decisions, hadn't had our main striker suddenly forget how to play football or not had a manager who kept picking Naismith and Neville etc we could be higher but that sort of things happens to all clubs. Without moyes team selctions, Neville's pointing, heitinga's defending, mirallas' dodgy hamstring and jelavic's ambitions to be a winger we wouldn't be this everton.

We're about the 6th best team in the league, with this squad and this manager and so we'll finish 6th. No need to read any more into than that.

Totally agree mate, I tend to get the impression that the fans would get on the players back hen we've underperformed this season but a couple of seasons ago when we were a mid table side that wouldn't have been the case.

The reason people get annoyed is because we finish 7th or thereabouts every single year, and there's little in the grand scheme of things to get excited about. Most people see football on the weekend as a break from the boredom of normal life, when your football club gets into a routine too it can get frustrating.

Stoke are an example. They were buzzing their tits off when they got promoted and have been really happy for the past four or five years despite playing terrible football, because that experience of being in the Prem was something new and exciting for them. This season though it seems a lot of their fans are getting tired of being bottom half of the table constantly, and a lot of Pulis out shouts have been made.

Same thing is happening at Arsenal with their fans, despite the fact that we'd love to be in their position.

Its all about the cups

We are never getting top 4, I dont care what anyone on here says, The top 5 sides in the country are to far ahead of us in squad size and quality

We need to go balls out for the League cup/F.A cup

I am not arsed in the slightest if we finish 16th or 6th, Win a cup and thats what we will remember in 10 years

Agree but we could have done better, I mean look at the games we've threw away this season by conceding silly goals. And soon after the fans would turn their back on Moyes and the board.

Look at the Wigan game, the board were questioned and we got answers, that just says how much expectation has been heaped onto the players after deciding to do that after an FA Cup exit. And it will only get bigger every season.

What questions were answered exactly after that game mate?

That's pretty much where I'm at, Del.

Moyes has been banging his head against the glass ceiling of the top 4 for eleven years, we're just never going to make it. The gap in quality and finances is just too much. And even if we do, we'll need to do it consistently before it means anything.

It's the cups that are the only thing that matter and we're crap at them.

I think Arsenal have a right to be disappointed because of their poor spending on average players. Skint clubs like us have been up there competing despite the lack of funds.

But football supporters don't base their happiness on financial success, they base it on winning stuff and improving as a team.

some of the more well funded clubs having taken their priorities away from the domestic cup competitions in recent years too

we should have bagged some silverware by now with ease
