It's an incomprehensible value. You could do whatever you imagine all of the time and at the same time employ someone full time just to piss it all away and never come near spending it all.

No doubt I'd try also. Here's an attempt to show how large that number is:

Japanese (baseball) pitcher Masahiro Tanaka (who has just signed with the Yankees) couldn't get a flight from Tokyo to New York, so he rented a jet. He rented a 200-passenger Boeing 787 for himself, a few friends, and a dog. The flight cost $200,000 (USD).

If you rented that airplane every day, and took the flight from between Tokyo and New York (one leg or round trip, your choice), it would take 95,000 flights, or about 260 years of non-stop flying, to spend down the $19B.

But no doubt I'd also try to find a way to spend the money.

Its like texing but slightly better. Annoyingly its just locked my service till i pay 0.69. I won't be using it any more especially as its owned by facebook.

It's a messaging app, not sure if its available on apple. It uses the internet to send messages to your phone, rather than using phone signal. Very user friendly and no additional charges for sending pictures, short vid clips etc. I like it a lot and will continue with it even though I despise Facebook.

Seems a lot of cash to buy something that doesnt really do much. Or at least, does something that could be replaced tomorrow by a nerd in a bedroom in California.

I think Facebook buying these things comes down to wanting the elite market. There are plenty of instagram apps but they have integrated their one now with Facebook. What's app will do the same so the end result is a website that is able to connect to everybody in the world without having to even visit the site.

Amazes me how Facebook has lasted longer than my space did.
