Confirmed Signing Fabian Delph

Delph coming in probably means Schneiderlin and McCarthy are off

If they're staying then we honestly don't need him as we've got plenty of senior midfielders on the books already

I must say, Delph is a pretty underwhelming signing, but I'll give him a chance

We could be looking at the first proper duffer of the Brands Era though. To be honest, we needed this, the "Brand Is God" crew needed a hard dose of reality

If the fee is as reported and he’s not on a crazy contract, then it’s a decent budget buy for extra squad depth (albeit a strange one)

If he’s a replacement for Gana, then it’s a no from me!

Meh, hopefully he's another Barry. Everybody was shrugging their shoulders over that one as well but look what a great signing he was for a few years.

Maybe he's viewed as a replacement for Gueye?
For me the difference there is that Barry was a player I very much admired throughout his career. Although I did indeed have serious reservations when we signed him, he was able to prove me wrong. But he was starting from a higher base.
Delph by contrast is someone I’ve never thought of as anything but a decent player nothing particularly exceptional about him for me. I have never once during his career thought he would be a player I would like us to sign.
If , as some are suggesting , he is being signed as a replacement for Gana then I see that as a significant downgrade and it somewhat dents my optimism for the coming season.

A picture from the Not even arsed animals thread would fit here.

I'm OK with 8m, but I can only hope that this means the end of at least some excess midfielders we've got.
