FA Cup or 5th?

OK, I'll clarify. If your primary barometer of success is the domestic cups, your mindset is very much small time.

The aim is never to finish 5th in the league - the aim is to win the thing, or achieve the next best prize, which is Champions League qualification.

Again, those who say "oh, we'd be in it for one season, who cares?" are again thinking small time. If you never aim to be in it regularly, you never will be.

The ultimate goal of any club in Europe should be to A- win the Champions League and B- win the domestic league. The domestic cups aren't part of that ambition; they are a secondary goal, a byproduct of success.

Most managers of CL clubs regularly aim for their domestic leagues primarily, with CL secondary. I think the fans prefer it as well...

But, realistically given our current standing (as a club in general not just this season) I'd say our main aim should be top 6 plus a cup... every season.

Like it or not we're not Chelsea, or City, or Arsenal or United.

I'd say for any club, one of the domestic cups should always be on the agenda.

Position in the league is a far better indicator of where you are as a club for me.

Yes but we're not the 12th best club in the league and everybody knows that.

We've underachieved but in the cups this season have shown what we're capable of.

I'd rather win something.

Medals are what counts.

Of course I'd love us to be challenging for top four and with how this season has panned out we should be.

But we're not, and even at the beginning of the season had I had the choice between potential cup win or 5th it'd be cup every time.

Of course, there's a long way to go but we're at Wembley. Just got to get the job done now, but onto Arsenal first.

Cup all day - and anyone who doesn't think so needs to get their backsides to Wembley and witness the truly exhilarating experience of seeing the Blues lift the oldest and most famous of cups.

I have gone on record with my apathy to the cups, but having got this far I'm going to flip flop and say the cup. If you asked me in January it would be different.

The question was if we had been knocked out of the Cup, but put together a more consistent run of performances and were now poised to finish 5th, would it alter your perception of this season and how successful it was?

5th gets you Europe. A Cup gets you Europe and a trophy. Edge to the cup, but ultimately both get you Europe.

If we finish 12th and win the Cup, has this been a successful season? Would you have considered a stronger league position and an exit in the cup to have been better, worse, or the same in terms of your perception of the season?

Easily the cup, it's still a special trophy. Just because Sky don't show it anymore they hardly give it a mention. They will soon try and do the same with the champions league.

Premier league greatest league on the world is all they care about.

On another note just looked at league table, 74 points got is fifth 2 years ago, the league winners won't even reach that this year. Bloody hell
