F1 2025 (and other motorsports)

Tracks drying now, thought Ferrari could have stayed out behind the safety car.
Not necessarily - Even behind a safety car a wet greasy surface while losing temp the tyres is a very hard to handle combination. Then they have to get them up to temp once the safety goes in on a track that's still wet in places. They'd have lost a ridiculous amount of time creeping round with a high risk of losing it.

Should have followed Verstappen in rather than going past him.

They should have come in straight away once the rain hit considering the team called that it was high level of rain for 2 laps. Once they stayed out, it was guaranteed they drop to the back as they were one of the last to pit, so had nothing to lose by staying out. Crazy strategy either way.

5 pts isn't a great amount but it's a lot better than 0 points and a possibility of two cars needing repairs and replacement parts. There's always something to lose when the plan involves hugely increasing the risks of a crash or two crashes.

The initial decision to gamble on staying out seemed overly risky to me but I can definitely understand the subsequent decision to cut their losses and accept that the initial decision wasn't playing out as they hoped.

Hopefully the poor Ferrari strategy calls don't continue this season though and it can improve

How many years has it been though?
You're right though. It'd be nice to have 3 or 4 teams genuinely pushing each other with a semblance of consistency.

There's always hope - it doesn't seem that long ago that McLaren were celebrating luring Ricciardo away from Renault so things can definitely change fairly swiftly.

Mad start, then good race, great result, tho would have been nice to see Oscar hold on for 2nd. Tense as hell for a lot of it to see if Lando was gonna hold on. Great job by Albon to come in 5th (4th). And Antoneli in 4th (5th).

This is a very cool overlay of Hamilton and Verstappens laps. You can easily see the different in braking/lines etc. They need to do this every quali session going forward. You'll need to view it on youtube though as it won't embed here
