Extra Europa League Place

It would be great to achieve Europe, but then I think we're overstretched with competing on three fronts as it is. I can understand Moyes's eagerness to do well in every competition that we enter, but something has to give. If winning the Europa League is our aim, then I think we need to sacrifice either the Carling Cup or the FA Cup.

Fulham have done fantastically well in Europe this season, but their league form has suffered because of it.

It must surely be a good thing to give the likes of Mucha, Coleman, Senderos, Duffy, Baxter, Wallace and Joao some gametime in the league cup. The reserves showed in the Europa League that they can hold their own.

For me, the run in is about putting one over Liverpool and Villa and sorting one or two flaws out for next season eg. drawing games that we should be winning.

This chap makes it all sound like a cert that they will be let in:

Portsmouth's administrator is confident the club will be able to satisfy Uefa's financial rules and be allowed to play in next season's Europa League.
Pompey qualify for the competition by reaching the FA Cup Final but they must also secure a Uefa club licence having been unable to apply in time as they were going into administration.

Club administrator Andrew Andronikou has been poring over the regulations and now believes that the club can make a strong case to be approved to play in Europe before the 31st May deadline.

"Since Sunday we have been scoping out what we can do and trawling through legalities," he said.

"I believe that we will satisfy all the criteria. We should be in a CVA (company voluntary arrangement) by the deadline, all debts will have been sorted out and arrangements made with the football creditors. We should tick all the boxes.

"In terms of sport ethics, I think the club has had its medicine, been taught its lesson and should be allowed to go forward, and preventing them from playing in the Europa League would be wrong."

Uefa delegate their licensing scheme to national associations so it will be the Football Association which would ultimately sign off Portsmouth's application, with the main issue that there are no payments outstanding to other clubs, staff or players.
Pompey would need to demonstrate that a new debt payment schedule has been agreed as part of a CVA and to file independently audited accounts.

Everton could be handed a place in Europe at Portsmouth's expense and their manager David Moyes believes Pompey's bid should not be approved.
"I was told Portsmouth had not applied to be in Europe," he said. "So if that was the case, they were not a consideration.
"It will be unfortunate for them but if they had not applied, you cannot say 'We want to do it now'."

If they reverse that then it's [Poor language removed] really, I still reckon we will finish eighth but whoever finishes seventh should go absolutely nuts.

They f*cked up, didnt adhere to the rulings and must now face the consequences.

No doubt The Star will do a campaign on their behalf or something

Moyes is doing the well good Scot way of dealing with these kinds of things tho, with a nice little combination of lighthearted exasperation and a stony face.

Let's see the "campaign" for Pompey gather pace if the RS finish 7th and don't win the EL.. shoved under the carpet? You bet!

Watch the FA "reserve" judgement until the final putative place is decided - RS (no chance for Pompey), Spurs, Everton or Villa (moot point)

The facts are: They had no licence, now Portsmouth want to go running to the FA to appeal cos they "will get their house in order" - the reality is ALL teams with serious problems like theirs should be automatically debarred from Europe - aren't West Ham also unlicensed?
