Just out of interest, not designed to be a reactionary thread, nor a Silva out thread. I’m firmly Marco IN for the time being, FWIW.

The Villa result was a bad performance, I think we can all acknowledge that. But after talking to a few blue mates, I think this season has become a peculiar one in terms of the variance among fan expectations.

My expectations are pretty clear, they are exactly as I set them out at the start of last season, and that we regrettably fell short of. After the considerable investment in the playing squad over the last few windows, it’s quite right that expectations have increased for Marco.

I believe 7th is the minimum requirement for Marco this season. 8th and a SF in a cup would be acceptable, not the considerable progress i’d hoped for but progress all the same.

But i’m keen to gauge where everyone else draws the line. If we can reach some sort of consensus as a fan base then maybe we can approach results like last night with a bit more calm, with one eye on the bigger picture.

At what point would you be demanding better? What would you say is your minimum expectation for the season?

Anything above 7th is over performing. Anything below 10th is under performing. I would be amazed if we finished out of that zone. Again.

It's probably too early to make predictions but there are early warning signs for me that it's going to be a similarly frustrating season to the past 2.

I just don't see the ruthlessness required from our players, or the manager, to get us close to the top 6. Even 7th will be a tough ask this season as Leicester and Wolves look fairly strong.

I see 8th, and a poor showing in the cups once again. 7th is the minimum requirement for me though.

7th is a minimum for me. I feel a bit sorry for silva because he made it clear he wanted certain things in the squad and we haven’t got them for him, which is poor. On the flip side, his obsession with letting our midfield get overrun in virtually every game is starting to grate on me, and his reluctance to make subs is infuriating. I don’t think our squad is better than it was last year so 7th will be a tough ask for silva, but another season below that can’t be accepted when you’ve spent what we have.

The club were well aware that Chelsea have Lampard in charge of a team with a transfer ban.

United came off a terrible end of season with an inexoerienced manager.

6th should be the bare minimum with how this club finished the campaign.

YET AGAIN we hit the ground stuck in slow motion due to unfit and unready players, and get turned over by Championship standard dross.

I am sick of it.

Leicester and Wolves look like they they can take teams to the sword a lot more than we can. I'd even go as far as saying teams are scared to play against them especially wolves. With us teams know if they sit back and relax so will we. We don't have any answers or plan b. We seem to press sporadically aswell which is extremely weird.

Very true I was asking a month or so ago have we done all we can to grasp the opportunity?

United struggling same problems as last year. Arsenal same defensive issues. Chelsea the most vulnerable like you mentioned, ban, fat frank no striker etc etc. Spurs look a bit lethargic. Even the rs look like there's something missing.

Sadly though I can almost guarantee everyone of those clubs will still finish above us again.

We’ll finish 7th or 8th and peddle the same old rubbish that next season will be different. Rinse and repeat.

We’re a busted flush as a club now. A nothingness just to make up the numbers. No excitement, no games that really mean a great deal, we’re just there and that’s the lot.

We've been a busted flush for 25 years, since the first brush with relegation, bar the 95 cup final win, 2005, 06-09 and 2013
