Am I right in thinking that according to these stats and analisys...

Due to Wigan being a countering team and us fielding Heittinga, we would of been better off if Moyes had 'bottled it in the big game', instead of pushing frowards so far and attacking them.

He's phenomenal EB, how he hasn't been snapped up in the pro game I don't know, he'd be excellent

A 0-0 wouldn't have done us much good, like.

Trouble with us is we play it by the numbers, everyone is very nice - stroke kittens, give to charity and generally go to bed early.

Whether we like disco or not we need more like Drenno...as Fox recently mused probably would have tw@tted lpool last year if he'd played.

We need more skill, pace and audacity through the side to do something having possesion/territory means nothing unless you have the ability to use it (see Barca minus Messi). Players we could get tend to be loose canons of that ilk and need a clever manager .... ahem!

It's been the problem with us for years and years; we have no set way of playing in the final third beyond get it to Leighton and hope for the best. We've seen a little bit of something new this season with the addition of the Anichebe backward plough crush, which is good to see. Generally though, we still rely on territorial pressure pushing the opposition further and further towards their own goal until we eventually score from sheer weight of numbers. There's nothing wrong with this, personally I quite like it because when it works it makes the opposition feel like they can't do anything, which is very satisfying. What I've always found strange though is that we don't make use of one of the main strengths of slow build up, the space created just outside the area for easy shooting positions. If it was me I'd have at least two or three players who were extremely good at shooting from range in the side. It makes it a lot easier to score goals if you don't even have to pass through the defence. Perhaps Frank might fancy it, you never know.

I think that was maybe Moyes thinking behind Gibson, turns out he's ace full stop but his distance shooting that was his strong point is actually a bit naff. Still Barkley's on his way now and he's got a decent hit on him.
Don't think saying we just give it to Baines does our team any justice (if that's what you meant) this season though.
Mirallas and Coleman have been very effective, as has Anichebe and Fellaini through the middle. Plenty of interplay and quick passing in build ups all season, dimissing all this as just waiting for Baines is pretty harsh.

Thing is though, it's not just about how Everton approach games it's also about how other teams approach Everton. Our style has changed and other teams have adapted. It's often like playing against 6 defenders and 3 forwards. The top teams in the division are just better and more experienced at overcoming this. Doesn't mean we should revert. We've got better, mainly because Gibson came back as the Neville and Osman partnership lacked strength and pace to recover from losing the ball. Anichebe has been a bit better for us with his back to goal than Jelavic. We need another forward and midfield cover to avoid dips in form which cost us.

Eb's reports are fantastic. massive eye opener for myself as I've realised there's lot's I don't see and often stuff I thought happened that didn't. Top guy.

i give huge kudos to Eb. His stuff is always enlightening.
his comment 'fit the system to the players rather than the players to the system' id like a little elaboration on.
which system would suit the players ?
id also like to compare the average of the 3 years compared to individual games where we have tried something different , like the game a while back when we played 3 cbs and wing backs (forget which team it was tbh)
