Everton's Fa Cup Pride...

As a small kid , I remember watching the 1984 cup final..The first from memory..Emotional day for both clubs and I always have that image of Elton John and that sign , "I guess that's why they call us the blues"....Sharpys goal was grand and seeing Trevor Stevens running down that right ring and delivering that mesmerising cross onto Grays head and Sharewood missing the punch..Grand times..

But to be honest with you. we have been great in the Fa Cup..I always have called it our cup competition..We never did any good in the league cup and that still stands to this day.. Of course there was recently the two leg semi final against Chelsea..But again missing out..

From the first final win in 1908 to the last in 1995 , our club is steeped in history with this competition..

1966 , Harvey , Young , Trebilcock. a fine comeback from 2-0 down..The beauty of the Everton spirit personified in this performance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spl2yQDHThU

Then after 1984...Came 1985...I seem to always remember the Semi Final against Luton at villa Park..Ricky Hill for Luton ..Mountfield getting the winner from Sheedys Free Kick..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EYxV7iFNlU&playnext=1&list=PL21692A00E7B78AD1&index=21 Excuse the sound..

1986..This was the one I remember most...I was majorly into Everton at this time and cried when Liverpool beat us..Buckets of Tears..Again the Semi final sticks in my mind against Sheff Wednesday..Alan Harper lobbing..Hodge (I think it was his name) The Sheff Weds GK and harper almost getting his shirt pulled off..

but this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnzygo1nkoY is one of my favorite moments from Everton History..I almost hit the roof jumping up and down watching it Live..Fa Cup used to be on ITV and BBC simultaneously back then and I would keep switching back and forth for some reason..Was a big fan of Saint & Greavsie..So would watch ITV over BBC and switch to BBC during Commercials..I get tingles watching Lineker score that goal even now..

1989...Was fitting that it was a derby that year for obvious reasons..We did well...But really couldn't begrudge them of that one..

1995...Again..The semi final against Spurs..Two goals from AMO and I have read I don't think Royal meant to put him on..But off to Wembley again we were and we were total underdogs..A huge Effort from the lads to win that one..And remember AMO going clean thru towards the end only to balls it up..But hey we won..Good Times..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMQmzqJzf98

2009...A great run from the lads got us to the final..And one of THE if not THE quickest Fa Cup Final goal of all time from King Louis..I feel we missed Jags that day..Like we Missed Southall in the 1986 FA Cup Final..Where Booby Mimms stood in..We were unlucky not to win in 2009 , Hey we deserved it..Beating Man utd in the Semi on Pen..I really thought it was our year..but not to be..

2011..Lets hope again...We can put on a great run and turn a mediocre season into a special one..

Heres hoping guys...(y)

Cue 1-0 loss to Scunny!

Seriously though, we need to go for this. There's no reason we can't win it this year, because we've got a great squad that's finding its feet and although we've messed up the league season, the FA cup hasn't started for us yet. So come on blue boys, knuckle down, give it your all, and give us another couple of trips to wembley!

It was THE quickest, and the most I've celebrated a goal since Rooney's winner against Arsenal.

Incidentally, with Chelsea equalising in the 23rd minute, it was also the quickest ever time for both sides to get on the scoresheet in the final, which was surprising to me when I read it.

I think we can go on a run again, provided we mostly draw teams from the top 6 in the PL (as in '09), as these seem to be the only sides we can compete with these days.

Just wanna say I'm liking the new softer, gentler GL than one who first showed up. Nice post mate. Especially for someone who missed out on all this stuff due to US TV not showing English Soccer until this century, I really enjoy all of you long timers reflections on your experiences. I have my own memories for my own teams over here, and I think that as we grow older these types of memories of living and dying with our teams becomes even more poignant.

Great post. I would love a good cup run this year.

Honestly, I'd rather win the FA cup then come 2nd in the league. It's been too long since we've won a trophy and I've begun to think this current lot (Manager and players) just aren't up for it.

Would love them to prove me wrong. I think we have every chance this year if we play like we can. Just don't get cocky against Scunthorpe, first. If we take it seriously and treat it like the spurs match, we shouldn't have any problems

Good stats mate for the fa cup final 09...Didn't know it was the quickest both teams had scored..I really want a good cup run to make up for a dodgy season so far..

Yeah , I was a bit high strung huh? It still comes out a bit on match day but a few telling's off from the powers that be have tamed me...I was a naughty boy , now reformed..
