or that the rower in UK is a better athlete then Michael Jordan or Bolt... Sure they may row a boat faster. and only run faster but if you train over to every sport then how is a rower a better pure athlete not just a one sport success...?

Chico I never said it was. I was referring to the US most gifted players that are faster or better foot eye coordination are moved to other sports after a young age.

if you are talking about olympics.. then yes. You saying phelps a better athlete then Michael Jordan?

Well Phelps hasn't been hyped as much as Jordan has. But Jordan is unique in his field. Like Bird, and Magic.

You need to think about what constitutes an athlete and perhaps also be a little less USA about it all. Doesn't wash so well with me.

Your country has become a Sporting TV Commerical rollercoaster. Everything is about money, and has been for about 15-20 years. For us the Premier League is going that way - and the media does put players up on pedestals as gods, as immortal and will destroy all in sundry.

Well we can look at the likes of Gerrard, as a super athlete, but it's not just about being athletic, or having big muscles, able to run the 100 in less than 10 seconds. It's about aptitude, and decision making. Being creative, and brave.

You guys all went hypo over Adu, where is he now?

Well is Michael Jordan a better rower than Redgrave?

Interesting you should say Steve Redgrave is the best athlete to be produced from this country. I mean, he did have Matthew Pinsent and co to help him. Many great talents have emerged from this country, Daley Thompson, Tessa Sanderson, Linford Christie are just several from track and field.

Yeah but he won it with many different people with him. And he did it when he closing in on his 40's - so he may have had help, or a coach - but make no mistake they wouldn't have won the medals without him.

Could not agree with you more Ghost.

I believe that there was no way for Adu to ever be successful he was hyped way out the realm of possible performance he is now at monaco fighting for playing time. He is only 19. I dont care for that kind of hype.

The premier league is being transformed into a US style money pit. and your worries will soon be realised

Yes I am very familiar with Johan, Diego, Socrates. I believe it is a combination of all things, mental ability, handling pressure and the inate ability to rise above everyone and everything to just succeed and be a WInner. things you cant teach. That is what is the diff between good and great

Sure, there are very few people who can do such a feat.

My point though has been that players with ability and the innate genius allows them to be more successful and in some cases ridicule a more athletic player.

I'm getting onto to the pgeverton guy who believed we could manufacture and Everton team from 6ft+ super beings from a factory in the US. It just doesn't work like that.

The media went all hypo over Adu, primarily due to his age when he started professionally.

Most of your astute soccer observers in the USA (myself included) took a wait and see attitude where Freddy was concerned.

He's improved since he first started but unfortunately, it's still a bit of "wait and see" with him.

Well he's 19 and at Monaco, so the lack of limelight is probably good for him, plus the stadium is only ever half full, so no pressure either.
