Everton Youth Teams Thread

I was thinking about the game the other night, Demi Akarakiri is quietly making good progress. He’s under the radar with the likes of Graham and Clarke getting the headlines in his year. Quick skilful players who score goals or big strong defenders often stand out more, but midfielders going about their job , doing the basics well don’t get much attention, and having not long turned 17 there’s plenty of potential there for maybe a Price/ Armstrong progression or at least a Metcalfe/ Onyango level. A long way to go , and yes it is sometimes hope overriding expectations.
Flashscores gave stats on the game the other night. I know he was young and stepping up but he`d 4 successful passes in 74 mins from 9 attempts.
1 an assist deserves credit.

Hmm, I posted with a view to see what others thought , but it’s difficult to respond to that. It comes across that you Googled Akarakiri and took Flashscores as your bible. There’s no context to these stats , and from your “ but” you appear to be taking them on face value and saying therefore he must be crap. I would guess that passing stats for say Eli Campbell and Harry Tyrer would be better , but it doesn’t mean they should be our u21 midfielders ie you can’t use passing stats alone to pick a player/ team.

None of those players on show the other night are going to play PL for us this season and if you say “ none ever will” , you’d likely be right 97% of the time. I’m pretty happy with my assessment that “ he’s quietly making progress “ and “ at 17 there’s plenty of potential there” . The next measure will be when Akarakiri starts an u21 PL2 game as opposed to a dead rubber game.

Akarakiri is an interesting one, because I’m genuinely unsure what his best position/role is.
He was brought in as an attacking Mid, but has mostly been used as a deeper lying MF, and in the last few weeks a spot or two at WB on the right.
He doesn’t have the tenacity/athleticism of Olayiwola, or the ball delivery of Murdock, or the vision/final third play of Nsangou. Doesn’t mean he can’t make a great midfielder, just doesn’t seem to “excel” at any specific role, which makes me wonder where he slots in on a team. Similar way I look at Gardiner, who is “fine” as a CB/RB/defensive mid, but doesn’t stand out at any of them.
Will be interesting to see how they progress and find their fit.

These things often go in spells which are difficult to understand, Akarakiri has had a lot of exposure at u18 and u21 the past couple of weeks , playing with a 2 on his back at times but ahead of Matos in terms of getting into the u21s. Murdock seems to have disappeared into the Finch Farm communication black hole , his play is quite distinctive, I wonder if he’s injured.
