Everton Youth Teams Thread

The more I watch Graham the more he looks like he's gonna have to play out wide. Hes just not suited to the back to goal side of being a centre forward unless he massively fills out like Burrowes for Villa.

He's better off playing off a target man in a free role

He is, but realistically that's a very niche role for him in senior football nowadays. Unless he seriously improves his passing and defensive side of the game to become an attacking midfielder.

Agreed, unless there is a huge growth spurt or he fills out a whole lot, he’s going to be an inside forward or second striker

Graham is featured in The Athletics “ The Prospects “ series today , they watched him at Tamworth mid week . Nothing new really in the article .
Re an earlier comment about Nsangou, way back in the day both Ledson and Kenny featured as 15 year olds for our then u21/23 s , I can’t remember which we had at the time .

I just think Dewsbury Hall currently plays too deep for where you ideally want Graham. He very well could make it as a second striker I just think a goalscoring winger might be an easier transition
Think if he makes it it’ll be as a bit of a Jota/Cunha type, comfortable out left/right and either behind a striker or as 2nd/3rd choice up top.

Needs to fill out a lot beforehand mind. Loads of time though.

They should have been going out on loan these players, the good ones, the older ones should have been moved on and younger players brought through. He was around with Bill so sentimentality was there go to word.

I remember one year 6/7 games to go, we were going to finish 5th to 7th, nothing to play for and we had 17tr old Antony Gordon as our best talent coming through. And he left him on the bench in Under 21 dead rubbers to play David henen and another player, could have been Connor grant. Who were both leaving at the end of the season, embarrassing

Then he gets made academy director by bullshit Billy. Marcel brands hated him, walked out of a under 21 game once, after 15mins because of the tactics and style of play

…I liked Brands, I know I’m in the minority but I thought he was a very good administrator.

Interesting what sway the club has over Youth teams style of play, tactics and even selection.

It could be to just see what they do but half the time the roles hes putting them in, the lads havent even got a chance of making it in. Van Schoor for example is never gonna be a left winger.

It's not even like he only does it for certain players, he's prone to playing every player in roles they just aren't suited to. But it could be club policy we will ultimately never know.

Maybe they want players to get an understanding of other positions on the pitch? They may full well know they aren't suited to that position but if they have an understanding of how other positions work it may help their game?

Based on what mate?

I'm intrigued.

….he kept the warring board factions together, very highly respected by both sides and by everybody at FF. It was a madhouse but it was no coincidence the whole place began to fall apart after his departure.

No surprise he’s now President of PSV, a significant administration role at a Champions League team.

I’m not sure of all their roles but it does seem that our new “ hierarchy” are making changes in terms of showing a pathway for the likes of Nsangou with his training with the first team and recent u21 appearance. There little point in trying to hide him these days , all those clubs who could take him away from us with a better offer will know about him, so the first stage will be to get him to sign a Scholarship with a pro contract guarantee. The recent activity for him suggests we’re actively showing Nsangou that Everton can give him a good future and pathway.

….i’d be amazed if that professional contract isn’t already guaranteed. Was talking to a friend recently who’s 14yo son is ‘over the park’ and he’s already been offered that deal.

I expect the very best will be lauded by many clubs, not sure to what extent they can courted whilst tied to one even at that age.

All the best prospects have a guaranteed professional deal included when they sign their Scholarship form, whether they take it up when they reach 17 is then up to them . My perception is that very few Scholars don’t get a professional contract these days, at one time we’d lose 5 or 6 players at the end of their Scholarships.

It appears to me to be open season for all youngsters up until 16 , they can change clubs with huge fees or compensation , but nobody ever seems to mention illegal approaches , courting or poaching , clubs may be angry to lose a player but it doesn’t seem to go to the FA as illegal these days. If , for instance, they sign a “ contract” from 14 to 16 then once that contract expires they become a free agent and can sign a Scholarship or Pro deal with another club eg Emilio Lawrence . Once they sign a Scholarship at 16 I think they’re tied to that until they’re 17 when they can sign a Pro contract with another club eg Small. I’m not a contract experts, just my observations of what has taken place recently .

Was a very open secret Rio Ngumoha got tapped up but instead of Chelsea complaining to the FA they brought in other measures instead. Pretty telling that the only team to ever get done for it (us) was because of a scorned family/player and not a club.

In general everyone benefits from tapping up
