Everton Youth Teams Thread

….weird how Moyes gave PL debuts to 13 teenagers in his first spell.

Indeed, if Moyes looks at birth certificates he’ll know that 3 of the 5 youngest PL debutants in our history were given their first games by him, 2 of them went on to become full England internationals.

It is a puzzle, though, why Welch and Campbell continue to appear on the bench, I know there is a view it’s because of their physicality. At least Campbell had a full season playing in the competitive SPL but Welch has struggled on loan.

Got to be an OAP to get a game for our first team .....

….off the top of my head, I’d think he gave debuts to Coleman and Osman, probably over 700 games for us. Of course, some left for decent money early in their career, such as Rooney and Rodwell but I suppose you could count Barkley. All went on to become full internationals. I think his last signing may have been John Stones.

Of course very few come through but Moyes gave plenty a chance.
He bought Coleman and stones they weren’t homegrown
And he gave Barkley his debut but dropped him after his first mistake and was never seen again

Also Osman was the star of our 98 youth cup winnnig team and barring injuries he’d have made his debut before Moyes turned up. But fairs fair, he did well with Osman. Maybe because he was 22 he let him make a few mistakes unlike 17yr old Barkley

….two of the 3 youngest ever Premier League goalscorers were not only given their debut at Everton but were given their debut by David Moyes. Victor Anichebe is also in the top 20 🙌

Victor Anichebe had a strange end to his career, got released by his Chinese club at 29 years old and he called it a day so it seems without officially retiring

…surprised he played 131 games for us, I’d imagine that Kevin Nolan ‘tackle’ at Newcastle impacted his career.

Only 15 when he made his reserve team debut, I remember my son telling me about this ridiculously powerful kid he played against in a school match a couple of years earlier.

He reminded me of Mark Hughes with his power to shield the ball from defenders, unfortunately the rest of his game wasn't quite to the level of Mark Hughes! Yes you're probably right about that assault on him by Nolan probably psychologically impacted him more than we realise but its still strange how his career ended

He was just settling in Nolan paid out of court for that disgusting tackle - in that game Arteta did his AC too....doh

Liked Anichebe but I thought Vaughen had more too his game, was faster and braver, injuries curtailed his career with us. At the time I thought him and Yakubu would have been an ideal partnership.

He tried this in the summer, didn't succeed though.
