MATCH REPORT

West Bromwich Albion U18’s 0 VS Everton U18’s 4

Two goals in either half put Everton back on winning ways and their fist win since Sept 3rd against a very good Albion team. Gethin Jones put the visitors in front and a penalty from Anton Forrester on the stroke of half time. Chris Long added a double In the second half and secured the points.

Everton were looking for their first win in 4 games against a West Brom team who have also endured an indifferent start to the campaign.

West Brom for the first twenty minutes were in total control giving Everton nothing, the home side played some lovely football as much as Everton tried they could not get the ball and were not looking likely to get into it .As West Brom attacked they seemed to lack ideas in front of the goal which was clearly a concern for them. Having so much possession.

Everton got their necks in front with a well created move down the left which involved Jake Bidwell and Adam Thomas who linked well together with a couple of neat one two’s before Thomas despatched a ball with his left foot on the half volley for Gethin Jones to head home and put the visitors in front and shock the host’s.

The goal gave Everton a lift as West Brom seemed to be shaken by it and started to make a number of errors and looked a different side that had dominated early on.

On the stroke of half time Everton got forward with Chris Long who got into the penalty area and was brought down as Mr Hayward pointed to the spot to give Everton the penalty which was put away well by Anton Forrester for his 5th goal of the current campaign.

Half Time

The second half had similarities of the first period with the home side looking the brighter and feeding the flanks trying their utmost to break down a very stubborn Everton defence with captain Dier and partner Henneghan pairing well together at the heart of the Everton defence.

West Brom in fact tried to take advantage as Eric Dier received treatment off the pitch for an injury and leave Everton down to ten men temporarily but couldn’t find a way through.

Everton to be honest controlled the midfield and for although Albion had the hunger James Fitzgibbon Everton’s goal keeper only had to make one save which was comfortable.

Everton sealed the game with a Chris Long individual goal to seal the 3 points for Everton with a run from the left and curl a shot at the far post.

To make matters worse for the Baggies, Chris Long notched his 2nd goal of the day and his third for the season again with a goal which started from a long Fitzgibbon kick which was helped on by Thomas who fed Forrester who then assisted Jones who found Long to tap in and put the game well beyond the clutches of West Brom and give the Merseysiders the maximum points.

Some good performers today for the blues especially, Pennington, Henneghan, Dier and Bidwell. Man of the match for the second week running goes to Matty Pennington

Next week the Toffees take on neighbours Liverpool at Finch Farm

Once again, I love your shirt.

Cheers bud, spilt coffee on it at Goodison and had to run to the toilet to wash it up like the girl I am. Luckily there's no real coffee in England so cold water did the trick. An amusing thing was that because of it being dispensed out of a machine, it had foam on top and the girl at the counter apologised me for only serving white coffee. Needless to say after the foam went down the coffee was normal black coffee (or as normal as it comes in the UK).

Cheers for that mate. Always interesting to see how the academy lads are doing.

Thanks Great write up.
How are Gethin Jones and Chris Long getting along?
Heard some good things about Jones and I remember Long was scoring a lot during pre-season.

The younger ones need time to settle in but last couple of games Matthew Pennington has been excellent and Ben Henneghan has been playing alongside Eric Dier
Boss as always mate - seems like there are a few new names in there this season anyone new looking promising mate?

Gethin Jones has been tipped to be big in the future, only time will tell. The coaching staff have given Gethin a couple of opportunties to play for the U18's then he is back with the U16's the next week. Chris Long is an opportunist and takes his chances well
