This isn't all on the manager. He played the team that had won 3 -0 twice.. the team most people wanted. The players didn't do enough either. Ross and rom were ineffective . Our shooting and final decision wasn't good enough either. Bringing in kone was a mistake the players made plenty on the field

Absolutely. We had a very good team out and had 76% possession. We were basically up against a brick wall. Kone was brought on as an extra striking option, but the truth is he isn't good enough. Osman was probably brought on because McCarthy wasn't having much of the ball. Del was probably brought on because Lennon's legs were tiring, but in the end he added little and is imo not quite in the same class with regard to his decision making. But except perhaps bringing on Mirallas instead of Kone i'm not sure Martinez did much wrong here.

I'd argue that Kone breaks down more attacks than he helps and the opposition don't consider him a danger.

I'd also argue that leaving Lennon and and having Deulofeu either on the left (The Cleverly sub) or in the middle (the Osman sub) would have posed more threat. Lennon best player on the pitch and still able to run in behind, with Deulofeu either on the other flank to split the threat or picking out the balls he does through the middle.

Pienaar on the left (or centre), Mirallas on the left (or centre) or Baines all would have been my preference to Kone. I saw him break down at least 4 of our attacks in his first 10 minutes on the pitch either through terrible ball control or woeful decision making.
As I said I don't think it worked or that Kone played well. I am just saying there was logic behind it. Sometimes it is just down to the players. Today was one of those days

Pulis did a Moyes on us today.

Apart from the poor goal to concede no complaints about the first half other than no luck in front of goal.

Second half West Brom and the substitutions reduced our effectiveness as the game went on.

Cannot understand any of the substitutions and what they were supposed to achieve.

Can only hope our away form sees us at Bournemouth next week.

Season summed up in 2 words "aching frustration"

This level of performance could make the probable American consortium think twice, ultimately our poor home from could queer the deal. Everton that .

Agree totally.

And even with Kev, there was really no space for him to run into. WBA and Pulis did us with negative football but it worked for them so fair play.

My main issue was the absence of Niasse. If he was ready, he could have come on in that situation and given the team and crowd a lift and put WBA up against a player they know very little of as they haven't played against him.

pullis trying to wind me up lol,on sky, saying they were distraught conceeding 3 in last 15mins at there place, even though it was not last 15min,smiling like mad when he said it-that game we were as bad as each other for 1st 60mins,today we battered them

I could see the logic in the Kone change, Esk. Unfortunately it just didn't come off.

Extremely frustrating but it is what it is.

Oh he's a proper cretin but just loves it when he gets to go to a place and park the bus for 90 minutes.

But presumably he wasn't ready. That's what the commentary team thought anyway. I'm sure it won't be long. But Mirallas or Pienaar would have been nice down the left wing, because nothing much was happening down that flank.

....1-0 down and I don't remember a clear cut chance in the 2nd half. The Baggies were comfortable despite us having lots of possession. I couldn't understand our substitutions, I couldn't understand why Niasse wasn't even an option from the bench. I rarely criticise individuals and I'm a big fan of Osman but bringing him and Kone on was difficult to determine.

....I thought they were very comfortable and in their position it was a fabulous result. Pulis deserves to be happy, he did a great job today.

Though the fans were more than fair today. Could see a lot of effort but our usual failings came to the fore.

However frustration levels are growing and understandably. There's a such an opportunity to break through the established order and we should be at least as well equipped as anyone else to take advantage.

Story of the last 12 years I guess, we've never kicked on when the opportunity has presented itself.
