Yes.

Basically, an "assist" is credited to the las man in your team to touch the ball before you score, so long as no opponent touches it in between.

Tim Howard was credited with an "assist" for one of Lukaku's goals against the Barcodes at home last season.

:)

That is why I hate when people use "assists" as a measure of how well a fellow has played.

It can mean anything from a hoof up the pitch from Disdin being met by Rom and lashed into the net or a defence slitting pass from Eto'o putting him in the clear to score.

It is way too gimmicky to mean very much :)
good point. Assist stats start to mean something when a player has got into double figures imo. Shows a level of consistancy.

Chances created a more reliable stat maybe? Whether you play a superb defence-splitting pass to Hibbert or Lukaku will impact on whether you have the assist or not, but it will be a chance created in both cases.

Good point, Billy.

Sometimes the chance is actually created by the next to last player to touch it before the scorer.

A good example of this would be Wayne at OT on Sunday last.

It was his beautiful curling pass around the Liverpool defenders which allowed Mata to cleverly play the ball to RVP.

Mata has the "assist" stat...but Rooney's was the crucial touch.

That first 30 odd minutes was the worst I've ever seen. A team that can put goals past us would have beaten us at home here, the only thing worse than our performance was QPR's.

In hindsight a hiding at Southampton was absolutely deserved.

You've lost that winning feeling,
Oooooh that winning felling.
