Everton v Bolton
And things were going so well too. Seven games unbeaten, attention now focused on Europe rather than relegation, the injury list nearly cleared up and David Moyes has to go and win the Manager of the Month award. A great accolade well deserved but there’s no escaping the fact that it has proven to be something of an albatross around the neck of many previous recipients. The Everton boss will be hoping all the hard work he and his players have put in so far this season isn’t set to be undermined by fickle fortune.
Coming in to this game both sides are in good form. Bolton have lost just once in their last seven league games whilst Everton are unbeaten in their last seven. Neither side concedes many goals and both teams have shown an ability to battle right up to the final whistle. Very little separates them in the table and the same should apply on the pitch. However, things do become a little unbalanced when looking at previous meetings between the two teams. Bolton have visited Goodison Park eleven times in the Premier League they’ve won just twice, drawing two and losing the other seven. Over the last four seasons home and away, Everton have a clearer dominance, winning six of eight and losing just once.
Going on those stats it’s no surprise that Everton are odds on at 4/6 to win. There’s more profit if you go -1 goal at 7/5 but this is likely to be a close game so probably best to leave the handicap bets for another week. In the goalscorer market Tim Cahill is always a threat at 5/1 to score first, Yakubu having gotten off the mark in his last home game is 11/2 whilst Mikel Arteta has scored against Bolton on a number of occasions and is a tastier 15/2 to score first and 13/5 to score anytime. If you fancy rising young star Seamus Coleman to star again you can get him at 16/1 to score first and 6/1 to score anytime. In the correct score market Everton to win 1-0 at 5/1 and 2-1 at 13/2 are the most likely outcomes. Finally, if this does prove to be a tight affair then there’s likely to be a frantic finish and the 10/11 on their being a goal after the 73rd minute looks a very solid bet, though at that price it may be one to stick in an accum.
A win will push Everton above Bolton and closer to the European spots. As long as Moyes’ award doesn’t jinx things, it should prove to be another good day at Goodison for the Toffees
