To be honest with COVD causing all sorts of issues maybe its not a bad thing we don't sign anyone, we would still be mid to bottom of the table come end of next season but in a far better financial situation from money saved from not spending this summer.

According to Ciro Venerato (no idea if reliable) we’ve ‘given up’ on Gabriel and offered €15m for Napoli’s Maksimovic as well as offering €20m + €5m addons for Allen

The Daily Heil are claiming we are trying to do a triple signing of Allen, Maksimovic and Lozano from Napoli

That’s part of our problem, not ‘our problem’. A number of the players weren’t performing in the system they were meant to be comfortable in either. It’s also just an extension of what I was saying really. A centre half who can only play well in a low block and with a defensive shield in front of him, for example, is not a very good player. A midfielder who can’t play in a 2 and needs To be partnered with both someone to do his running and someone to score and create, is not a very good player. We need to bring in some actual quality; players who don’t need absolutely everything to be exactly to their liking in order to perform.
I disagree , most players have a preferred system in which they can perform closer to their maximum potential.
Most good teams are made up of fairly average or decent players who complement and facilitate the abilities of a smaller group of outstanding players. It is often the case that a player who appears to be exceptionally good is shown to be less successful when removed from the team or system he is suited to.
A great manager is one who understands the abilities of his team and sets up his tactics and systems to get the best out of hitherto mostly seemingly ordinary players.
Poor managers resort to the chequebook and hope to buy a successful team before the money runs out.
I hope and believe we have appointed the former and not the latter.

Think we give up a long time ago on Gabriel myself, you dont take week after week and take this long to make a decision were you go, think it looks quite easy to say he wants napoli and off course they dont seem to be able to afford him so thats why its been the wait to see were he went

Excellent post which neatly summarises how we arrived at our current situation and accurately plots the only way we can get out of it, a period stability .
I would hope that the majority of our support and our owner can at least control their understandable impatience and allow the manager to build his team without reacting to every downturn with demands for more upheaval .
Transforming a mid table club into one capable of competing at the top was always going to take 2 or 3 seasons minimum after we had sufficient financial backing.
Sadly because of the missteps since the arrival of Moshiri we are still at the start of that 2or 3 seasons.
It is important we understand this and temper our expectations accordingly.

I think / hope our fans will be more patient with someone the stature of ancelotti. Its in no way the fans' fault, but you can understand wanting rid of the likes of silva, allardyce, koeman and martinez because there was no glimar of hope at all with any of them, we were getting worse and worse.

Ancelotti has already shown how results can be improved just by having that top quality manager.

This was reported a couple days ago. Why would we even bother to go after a journeyman CB for 5m less than we were offering for a 20year old promising CB? It makes no sense. It's like saying the Tesla I want is going to go to someone else so I'll settle for a Kia.

No one is going to pay 10m for him and take on his 120k a week though

Schneiderlin took a wage cut to join that French side

Sandro took a wage cut to seal a loan move to that Spanish side.

No player on big wages gets the same wages elswhere - even the likes of James Rodriguez and Alexis Sanchez won't be getting their current wages elwhere thats football.

All the Barca and Utd cast offs that have rocked up here over the years will have taken a paycut.

Stop playing FIFA but buy player A B C and sell players D E F

deeeeeead eazzzzy

Almost like thats the actual job of a DOF.

eh Baz the Brickie - stop playing landscape on your laptop but lay brick A here and lay down cement there.

deeeeeeaaadd eazzzyyyy

We best tell the likes of Dortmund & Leipzig they are doing this footballing thang all wrong.

So finally appoint a real manager, then waste a full year of his contract.... Sound...

Sadly the echo bots will convince the masses 2-3 signings + Gbamin turning into Patrick Viera once his artificial legs are attached will have us fighting for europe.

We'll be lucky to finish 9th-10th without a good few signings this window its really that simple - we were outplayed by kin Southampton & Aston Villa and thumped by a relegated Bournemouth side AT HOME
Too many signings is as bad as no signings. We saw that with Koeman.
Three quality signings added to Digne,Holgate,Gomes,DCL,Richarlison is a great start.

There then is a challenge for Pickford to regain form,Kean to establish himself , Gbamin hopefully to get fit .

There are players at the club who should be doing better than they are at present and new additions together with CA can change things around quickly.

I repeat mate - we got schooled at home by Southampton, Aston Villa & Bournemouth.

Its going to take more than 2-3 signings to turn us around unless they are Messi, Ronaldo & KDB.
