4 goals 1 assist playing in a team that finished 17th. Probably better than the other crabs but we are desperate for a box to box or defensive not offensive minded

He has played box to box most of this season... It's his best position, but he certainly isn't a physical tackling midfielder... and Celta would have been relegated without him. You are right though- he isn't what we are looking for

There are a lot of good players who would undeniably improve us and are still not worthwhile signings. Willian and Thiago Silva are both in that category.

Willian on a free would be one of the best deals we would have pulled off in a long long time

He'll go to a club much better than ourselves though

And we will finish mid table twice with him before he goes back to Brazil. It's a waste of time. We have to build longer term.

Not to mention while Willian is good, he is not and has not ever been genuinely world class and wouldn't transform the side on his own.

Correct

We need good defenders, Stones isnt a good defender.
He’s a nice to have in a team that doesn’t have to defend too much, and even at City he’s been found out.
Also, going back rarely works out.It would be particularly difficult given his strained relationship with the crowd.

We have no creativity and nobody who can go past a man. We are absolutely crying out for someone offensive minded in midfield. Gbamin and Delph fit the defensive brief if they can ever get fit, theres not one midfielder in the squad who contributes anything creatively though.

Mate we are not in a position to haggle over who and who isn't world class, end game is Willian improves our team a lot and would be arguably our best player. Doesn't matter if it's short term or not he is a brilliant player

Might be throwing my eggs in the Gomes basket but as a defensive player in midfield goes we have nobody we can rely on, Delph has missed more games through injury than Gomes whose ankle was doing backflips and Gbamin has had 2 horror injuries in less than 12 months. Our midfield was non existent because nobody put a tackle in and were all absolute slugs.

It does matter because we aren't close to the end goal and short term plays with no longer term value will at best keep us the same distance from that goal.
