I disagree, quite strongly.

They've won three on the bounce, including wins against Chelsea and Spurs. What if Cisse finds his shooting boots or they find a way of accommodating Ben Arfa? Surely they will move up a gear. They could quite easily get Demba Ba back in January too. They've got some decent players and shouldn't be discounted.

cisse's absolute tosh, he had a purple patch like jelavic, but they've both shown why they never played for any good teams before newcastle and everton moves, because they're not consistantly good strikers.

newcastle have been much better since they dropped ben arfa, sometimes that's just the way it goes.

Krul, Ben Arfa and Cabaye are class. Remy has 8 goals in 9 games.

Debuchy, Coloccini, Gouffran, Guitierrez, Taylor, Cisse, Tiote, Obertan and Sissoko have been highly-rated at one point but aren't playing as well as they can.

Yanga-Mbiwa was in the French league's team of the season and it was a bit of a coup for Newcastle to get him.

Their defence is a big issue though. You're not going to get very far with players like Dummett, Williamson, Haidara and Santon. And their decent defenders aren't consistent, focussed or fit often enough.

They lack depth as well. Ameobi x2, Anita, Gosling, Marveaux and Vuckic are Carling Cup players.

But if Krul can keep keeping them out and Remy can keep putting them away they could keep themselves in contention.

Aging defenders and lack of cover in nets biggest risk... Distin and the lad from wigan who has never played are in final season..robles looked shaky pre season .. Baines is off in summer... Jags not the rock we want, Johnny is forgotten... This is where the activity has to be... And a fast, ball winning central midfielder to give us what osman, cahill and fellaini collectively offered during their years with us.. Someone similar to our Barkley or that japanese lad at united who is pissed off with moyes!

In opportunities shouldn't 'potential new investment/ownership' be noted?
I know you said team- related as opposed to club, but it could easily be argued that this is very team related.

Just off to do a TW@T analysis of the Sh1te.....
