Its a bad gimmick mate. Been around for decades...the 40's, 50's etc etc. Yes the technology has got better, the image clearer but it doesnt add anything in terms of "wow".

And it does matter the slant on the pitch. It'll look good at pitch level...but from the actual camera view of traditional football matches on TV, it'll be very "so what....?"

Its a step back from HD IMO. HD makes everything so sharp and clear. Blurring that image so you can get a pop up look takes the shine off it IMO.

It'll get better I guess. But its still a money grabbing gimmick IMO. What it does do (or eventually will) is cut out piracy and increase the price of its use so they make more money.

Movies are doing it now since Avatar made a [Poor language removed] load of cash (more to do with ticket prices increasing due to the 3D). So they're converting films that arent 3D into 3D (in a really [Poor language removed] way of dulling the background so the foreground stands out) just to get more money.

I can't discuss this with you any more. you're so entrenched in your dismissive attitude its ridiculous.

The image was taken from the usual high vantage point at Goodison on the half way line.

It was by far superior to the usual image of the game, it was also in 3D HD image,

the only thing technologically that hasn't been fully addressed is the 30% colour loss. Although from what I saw, and the fact of where I sit at goodison the difference in what it recorded of the actual goal, and what I saw was negligable. The colours are all vibrant and the image is just like you're on the pitch.

If anything its that good I was shocked.

And another thing - this "pop up look". Like cardboard cut outs - maybe an issue in 2D converted to 3D format.

But these are filmed in 3D. Its totally different.

JUST WAIT TILL YOU SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.

Its HD 3D format.

Fair dos. You like the 3D stuff. I dont cos I've yet to see anything that says "yeah, this is the future, everything should be like this".

All I keep saying is "yeah, but it's still good in 2D". Untill that's addressed, then it will always be a gimmick.

I sit next to the tv camera at GP. And I'm excited to see more because it looks so good.

If it looks as good as the teaser I've seen, then I'll be buying it up when the prices of the HD-3D screens come down, which they will within 18 months.

I think you're also confusing previous technologies of converting-2D images to 3D. Rather than the Sky use of 3D-filming technology.

THE TWO THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME.

Mark my words. This is going to be huge for people watching sport

I never said that, I said that as a point to prove that its a way to increase the price of things. If its not shot in the 3D it can be made into 3D and the price goes up.

And Im still not buying that "its the future" because its not particularly needed IMO. The only use is to stop piracy and make more money.

It'll be a novalty. It wont change anything. You'll still have 90% of people watching it in 2D, and 10% on their todd watching in in 3D week in week out.

Lets bring back smell o vision and rumble seats and all.

Rubbish. It hasn't been released yet so your 90:10 prediction is hugely premature.

And we're talking about HD 3D for sporting purposes. Not movies and back catalogues converted into 3D which is inferior to live-content shot in HD 3D as Sky are advertising!!!!

In this case, as you've obviously yet to see the SKY trailer I suggest you come back when you have.

I suggest it'll be you on your todd.

3D will probably be all the rage and that, but nothing will ever beat being at the match itself in the flesh

Saw the Man United V Chelsea game in 3D yesterday....3D on the TV on one side, HD on a big screen on the other.

And its basically what I've said. Normal view of the game has a slight bit of depth but there's no real difference between that and a HD view of the game....

But when the camera goes either pitch level or closer to the players, it stands out and looks great as their is clear depth to it.

I enjoyed it but there was nothing to make it really worth while, especially when comparing it to the HD version that was shown next to it. And for personal tastes, I think they should've utilised more stats and on-screen updates cos when they did it looked great. There's also a very limited view of replays and no super-slo mo either...which is just being picky.

So it was like I said in previous posts...cracking view at pitch level with lots of depth even on close ups. Normal view isnt anything special as there's limited depth and nothing that makes it standout over normal HD.

I dont get it "you feel as if your really there"!

Eh go to the game!

True.

Its not like "being there" at all cos like I say its basically like watching the game in HD but the pitch view shots are class on a visual level because of the depth.

But you cant watch the game like that so its a bit of a waste of time but very nice looking.

Glasses cost £2 too....but you hand them back and get your money back.

Being a tech-head, it was shown on a high def LG 42". I dont think the landlord bought a new tele just for 3D so you'll be able to watch it on a normal HD tv. I think you just need a new sky box.

I think the whole thing is gone a bit chicken oriental to be honest, my mate got a new touchscreen phone yesterday, said to me i can send a message by touching the screen - eh i can send a message by touching the buttons - dont see it like!

* Prob still get one though!
