Bbc TV programme in late 70s iirc Colditz. German officer trying to be friendly with British officer played by david McCallum asked who had won league before the war started " was the Wolverhampton or the Everton?" "The Everton " was the reply!!!

Probably been mentioned before but in the last episode of series 2 of The League of Gentlemen there's a guy wearing our away shirt from the mid 90's.

Damit, i just watched that episode and didn't notice any Everton shirt but then remembered they did different US and UK versions

Do we? What does he say??
oooh now you're asking mate

long time since I read it, and it wasn't a great book anyway

if I recall correctly, goodison park is mentioned quite a bit (66 world cup obvs)

and I think when he goes to America he's coached by someone who used to play for us, can't remember who but he calls him "the old evertonian"

I'd say the turning point was nearer to 1975, myself. We went toe to toe in the sixties.

True.

Here's a simple fact.

If we had have had Shankly as manager and they Catterick, the whole media profiles of the two clubs would have been radically altered.

I am not saying Shankly was better than Catterick, just that he tapped into the zeitgeist of the 60s and was better at linking his club with the whole Swinging Sixties scene in the city than Harry was.
