..i’m a huge Baines fan, but getting his wage off the book would virtually off-set Tierney’s initial salary. That appears good business. It’s a new regime, a new start.

Alternatively having the best left back the clubs had in 30 years he can further learn from most offset the saving in wages by getting rid of baines.

Other option is baines leaves as Tierney's contract escalates upwards next season

It's not getting annoyed its seeing sense. Our wage bill at the minute is astronomical compared to our incomings and 200k a week is litraly nothing compared to what we need to shift. Saving 200k compared to what we need to save is the equivalent of saving your John Thomas from lava by lying down in it and lifting your hips up.

Save 200k spend nearly half of that on a unproven kid, left back from the Scottish leauge, doesn't make good business sense to me.
The only way we are going to attract players is with big wages. We have no European football, haven’t won won a trophy for years, and are not part of the sky six (yet)

Sign farmer boy, punt Martina, give Robinson a 6 month loan, see if either can play football before we sell our best LB.
The whole point of this summer is to reduce the squad and get wages off the books though. Baines leaving would make sense to me if we do go for this kid. Plus, it can't be as bad as playing Cuco out there all season can it? At least the two young lads are ACTUAL lb's.

Theres getting wages off the books and then theres leaving yourself short with 2 lads who nobody knows can perform in this league.

You can reduce wages massively whilst retaining solid backup, think baines is in about 70k PW, Martina and garbutt combined about 55-60k I know which option Mahesh more sense to get rid of immediately.

We are also moving in or looking to move in upwards if about a dozen more, some really high earners, if we bring in sat at most 4 on the type of contract muted for Tierney, then it's be about 400-420k PW.

Rooney + Mori had cut 200k, the others probably about 50k so far. Bolasie is on 80, Klassen 100, Mirallas 65, Sandro 100, Williams 80, say we have to subsidise some of those moves to the extent of 30% total that's still close to another 300k PW saved.

Throw in others who may move in like Galloway, Schneiderlin, Besic, Martina, and we should have shifted about 600-700k off the books in wages.

Which is why you can expect some like baines, Jagielka etc to remain a season, and through contract wastage we will save a lot during next summer, in fact it's almost be like that would cover the increases in stages improvement contracts for new arrivals...

I agree with you and I suppose I was reacting to some posts which seemed to assume Robinson would be a suitable choice for the first team LB slot based on a couple of good games for the national team and his best performances in the Championship.

If you look at the left back position, as we may be with Tierney, you have:

* an older more experienced but less attacking Baines
* a squad utility player in Martina
* Garbutt now out on loan
* Galloway with first team experience and coming off a run of poor loans
* Robinson with Championship experience
* Connolly with Championship experience
* Foulds not making progress at U23
* Gibson (Lewis) making good strides in youth team

That's a lot of players to fight your way through and if Tierney comes in then the 'open' position becomes more closed.
If you're talking about my posts regards Robinson, I only asked the question is he ready, I didn't say he should be a starter.

Maybe Everton should look outside the farmers league.

Then that leaves somebody like Danny Rose, that will most likely cost twice as much, in fees and wages and might not be as good.

Im all for the club "taking a chance" on somebody like this boy from a lesser league, but putting all your eggs in an unproven basket is not for me.

I don't think that's why the US election was won though in fairness, Bry?

Btw, I don't agree that twitter is a brilliant barometer for if a club is big or not, but it makes sense that the bigger the club, the more the followers.

Tierney would be boss.
It was mate, it was apportioned as part of the disinformation campaign. Don’t wanna clog up this unrelated thread, but happy to chop it up in another thread.

I see Spurs signed Davidson Sanchez for £42 million. Hes 22 and only had played one season with Ajax after playing in Columbia for a couple of season. He was decent in his season with Ajax but nothing special.

I don't see any reason why Celtic shouldn't be getting at least the same amount for Tierney. Tierney is a far more impressive young player than him.
