This.
It seems to be the older lads (say, post 30 or thereabouts) who have witnessed us when we were boss, saying they don't regard him as one. Time and rose tinted glasses go together perfectly, I think in 20 years when the next 'Cahill' comes along they'll be like 'he's no Cahill he was boss larrr'. Could be wrong like.
Ah happy times watching little inchy heath, sheedy, andy gray, peter reid. oh happy days (when we would win stuff!)
We weren't just boss though. We were THE best. We had THE best players.
He got what Everton were about, he bled blue, he would put his life on the line for the team.
In 20 yrs you might be talking about Tim, I'll be talking about Peter Reid cos Cahill aint a legend like Reidy.
Maybe not to you, and that is fair enough. My age group have only ever seen an FA Cup win, its not our fault we didn't see Everton at their very best, but we're still here week in, week out not running off to support City or Chelsea, we know what being an Evertonian is, just like Cahill & Duncan did, that's why for me, they are legends.
Your time will come mate. There have been peaks and troughs throughout the clubs history and one day another great Everton team will emerge. A raging debate will ensue as to whether this team is better than the 80's or the 60's sides, whether certain players were better than others.
Inbetween all this will be players like Latchford and Mckenzie, Cahill and Ferguson. Beacons of light in the dark times but nothing compared to the true legends, the ones who make us really great.
Keep the faith. COYBB.
