RB for sure, since we can't keep Coleman healthy.

It's not insane to think that Carlo might still be able to develop Iwobi into an overpriced squad player, so I don't think we'll make a move there.

Something does appear to need to be done about the third midfield spot.

I will apologise for the long post in advance

I think they must be very hopeful of a RB in January, to not even consider Kenny, it’s different to Nkounkou, who Ancelotti obviously thinks isn’t ready to play at that level. While Kenny is 23 and played the equivalent of nearly a full season in the Top flight in England and Germany. With Coleman finished imo and getting little niggles all the time, Surely Carlo can’t be left with holgate/Godfrey or switch to wing back the week and play iwobi.

Maybe the lad Dumfries from PSV.

The midfield, hopefully Gbamin will come back very soon and be back in the squad, and get a few minutes over Christmas. Probably start v Rotherham all things being well, but it’s unlikely he will all of a sudden be ready to play 20/25 Games for the rest of season. After so long out, he’s likely to pick up little niggles. And will need time to recover properly. We ain’t spending 20mil+ on another sitting midfielder, so for me I would go and get Khedira on a short term deal. I know he’s 33 had a few injuries, but I think he would be perfect as temporary cover in that role.

Up front. I mentioned last week, how we have no quality to come off the bench and change a game for us, like an hour in maybe take off Richarlison and James if they aren’t on their games and have players who can help turn 1 point into 6 in the last 2 matches. Take Man Utd, I know they are on a different level to us, but in their last 3 aways. They’ve gone a goal behind in each. And won all 3, and brought off the bench in them games. Pogba, Fernandes, van de beek, mata, Rashford, Cavani. Maybe even martial. While we bring on Tosun, siggurdsson, Bernard, Gomes, Delph and Davies.

We definitely need a quality top 5 for 3 positions next season. Maybe the club have a couple in mind for next year and probably can’t get them in January. I doubt we could loan anyone of really quality in January. Maybe we could get a younger player, 20/21 who can sit in the bench as back up and one for the future.

2 players who I think could be options are Depay, yes wants Barca, but I can’t see Koeman lasting and maybe that will change their targets. he has a 6 months left on his contract and brands was his DOF at PSV. And Thauvin at Marseille. Also has 6 months left plays off the left bit can also play central, at a good age, yes failed at Newcastle but was only 22. He’s since improved and got 10 caps for France.

We could probably get Dumfries and khedira and one Of depay/Thauvin for 35mil and 250/300k wages.
we could sell Kenny, Bernard, finally get Besic and bolasie off the bench. Maybe even get rid of tosun. 15/20 mil brought in 300k saved in wages.

Easy this DOF lark.

To be fair Kean is never playing for us again and Gordon is, at best, an unknown quantity and you'd be mad to put him in any starting xi from next season.
 

The talk of Dumfries, he's a great player but not what we need

James will start on the right so we need a fast good technical player, maybe im being harsh, Dumfries is clearly a top footballer and will do well, but he isn't a fullback that will fly high and hold the width
 
I feel like there are at least 50 players we could afford and would give us what we need in midfield at a PL level to turn this season around and I unfortunately doubt that any of those players will be coming here in January.
 

Heard rumours of Spence from Middlesbrough but if he comes will he just be another Nkounkou who won't be trusted in first team affairs?
If so, what's the point?
We need players who can slot in now not in 3 years time.
Suppose we did have both though and they are just going to stay in the u-23s for a couple of seasons, I would say we need both LB and RB spots filling asap.
Celik from Lille. Trippier from Atletico. Kurzawa from PSG. Would they want to give up what they have to join us?
Who else is there? Aarons? Tavernier? Rose? Rodriguez? They would be more likely to join but are they good enough?
I'm struggling for names tbh.
I do think we need both positions covering though and just hope Carlo et al think the same cos we are definitely struggling again whilst others are out.

I’d suggest any young player takes a look at Fabian Delph playing ahead of our backup left back and stays well away from our club.
